Mumbai, July 4, 2025 – Shares of  vehicle manufacturer SML Isuzu have witnessed an impressive rally, surging  more than 30% in the past 5 days. This significant upward momentum is primarily attributed to robust vehicle sales reported for June and the first quarter of FY26, coupled with heightened investor optimism following Mahindra & Mahindra’s (M&M) strategic acquisition.

As of 2:50 PM today, 4th July, the stock is trading up by 8.88% at ₹2,689.70.

What’s Driving the Stock Surge?

Strong Sales Performance in June 2025

SML Isuzu reported a 6.3% year-on-year (YoY) growth in total vehicle sales for June 2025, reaching 1,871 units. This growth was largely propelled by its cargo vehicle segment, which saw a remarkable 41.6% YoY jump to 480 units, up from 339 units a year earlier. However, passenger vehicle sales experienced a slight dip of 2.1%, decreasing to 1,391 units from 1,421 units in June 2024.

For the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 (April–June), SML Isuzu demonstrated a strong overall performance with a 12.5% YoY rise in total vehicle sales to 4,926 units. During this period, cargo vehicle sales surged by a sharp 46.3% to 1,282 units, while passenger vehicle sales modestly increased by 4.0% to 3,644 units.

M&M’s Strategic Stake Acquisition Boosts Sentiment

Investor sentiment received a significant boost from Mahindra & Mahindra’s announcement on April 26, 2025, to acquire a 58.96% stake in SML Isuzu for ₹555 crore, at a price of ₹650 per share. This acquisition includes a 43.96% stake from existing promoter Sumitomo Corporation and 15% from Isuzu Motors Ltd, a public shareholder. In compliance with SEBI regulations, M&M also launched an open offer to acquire an additional 26% stake from public shareholders, which concluded on July 2, 2025.

Strategic Value of the Deal

The acquisition is poised to significantly strengthen M&M’s position in the truck and bus market by unlocking operational synergies, expanding its market reach, and enhancing product development capabilities. With M&M’s strong presence in the small commercial vehicle (SCV) segment, the company is well-positioned to leverage SML Isuzu’s Intermediate Light Commercial Vehicle (ILCV) portfolio to expand into adjacent markets, particularly in buses and CNG commercial vehicles, where SML Isuzu has a strong foothold.
