Mumbai, April 20: Shares of Trent Limited climbed sharply in Monday’s trade, extending their recent rally as investors cheered the company’s plan to consider a bonus share issue alongside the announcement of its March quarter results.

At the time of writing this report, the stock had risen 4 per cent at Rs 4,270, with momentum building ahead of the company’s board meeting scheduled for April 22.

First Ever

Investor sentiment has been buoyed by the prospect of a first-ever bonus issue, which, if approved, would reward nearly 5 lakh retail shareholders. The board will also consider a dividend payout, fundraising plans and an employee stock ownership scheme (ESOP), making it a packed agenda with multiple triggers for the stock.

The rally comes amid a broader recovery in the stock this month. Trent shares have surged 28 per cent in April so far, rebounding strongly after a period of correction, as investors return to high-growth consumption plays.

Strong Growth

Operationally, the company continues to show strong growth momentum. Trent reported around 20 per cent year-on-year growth in standalone revenue for the March quarter, supported by robust expansion of its store network and steady demand across formats such as Westside and Zudio.

The company’s aggressive store rollout strategy remains central to its growth story. As of March 2026, Trent had expanded its footprint to over 1,200 stores across formats, reflecting its push to deepen presence in India’s fast-growing fashion and lifestyle segment.

The bonus issue proposal, however, has taken centre stage. Bonus shares are typically viewed as a signal of management confidence and are often seen as a way to enhance liquidity and retail participation. For a stock like Trent — which has delivered multibagger returns over the long term despite recent volatility — such a move is likely to further strengthen investor interest.

Underlying Risks

That said, some analysts remain watchful of underlying risks. Concerns around margin pressures and rapid store expansion — particularly in the value fashion segment — have previously weighed on the stock.

For now, though, sentiment remains firmly in favour of the bulls. The combination of strong growth visibility, improving momentum and the prospect of shareholder rewards has turned Trent into one of the top gainers in the current session.

With the April 22 board meeting in focus, the stock is likely to remain in the spotlight, with investors closely tracking both the bonus issue decision and quarterly earnings for the next leg of direction.
