HDFC Bank Allots 767.7 Crore Bonus Shares Worth ₹1,535.4 Crore, Paid-up Capital Doubles

Mumbai, August 28, 2025 – HDFC Bank Limited (NSE: HDFCBANK, BSE: 500180) allotted 7,67,70,39,761 fully paid bonus shares of ₹1 each (in a 1:1 ratio), effectively doubling the equity. Following the allotment, the bank’s paid-up share capital increased to ₹1,535.4 crore, comprised of 15,35,40,79,522 equity shares of ₹1 each.
Key Announcement
The allotment was made to eligible shareholders as of the record date, August 27, 2025. Each shareholder received one new fully paid equity share for every existing share held, doubling the outstanding shares of the bank.

The share of HDFC Bank Ltd. closed at ₹957.30, down 1.65% compared to its previous close of ₹973.40. The share opened at ₹967.00 and reached its intraday high and low at ₹972.20 and ₹955.00, with a total traded value of ₹2,025 crore.
First Ever Bonus Issue
This was the first of its kind corporate action by HDFC Bank in history.

Before the bonus issue, HDFC Bank had 7,67,70,39,761 equity shares of ₹1 face value with paid capital of ₹767.7 crores. After the 1:1 bonus allotment, the Bank’s equity base (total shares) increased to 15,35,40,79,522, which brought the paid-up share capital to ₹1,535.4 crores. Pre-Bonus figures are based on the issued ratio.
The eligibility date for the bonus issue was August 27, 2025, and the allotment date was August 28, 2025.
Outlook
The bonus issue that HDFC Bank has offered is its first bonus issue, indicating the management’s confidence in liquidity and trading volumes. While share prices fluctuate, fundamentals remain unchanged. Growth in earnings, quality of assets and profitability, which still underpin a robust long-term perspective, should be the focus of the investors.
