Mumbai, May 12: Shares of JSW Energy came under pressure in Tuesday’s trade, declining as much as eight percent after the company reported quarterly numbers. The stock saw elevated volumes as investors reacted to the earnings announcement, with the move appearing to reflect disappointment following earnings.
For the March quarter, JSW Energy reported a 38% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit to ₹574 crore. Revenue from operations for the quarter also rose sharply, up 41% at Rs 4,499 crore.
Soft Quarter
However, a Business Standard report quoting analysts noted that Q4 was relatively subdued for JSW Energy, with revenue coming in about 24% below estimates. It also pointed out that the reported profit received support from a deferred tax asset recognised during the quarter, arising from carryforward losses and unabsorbed depreciation at the Utkal and KSK Mahanadi assets.
At the time of writing, the stock was down six percent at Rs 521.85.
The stock had witnessed a strong run-up ahead of the results, which may have also increased the scope for the slide once the numbers were released.

The company’s performance was supported by higher power demand and improved plant utilisation, along with ongoing capacity additions that strengthened its generation base. Strategic investments in renewable energy assets continue to form a key part of its long-term growth narrative, aligning with the broader shift toward cleaner energy sources in India. Management commentary around expansion plans and future project pipelines will likely be closely tracked for cues on sustainability of earnings growth.
Broader Weakness
Broader market conditions also influenced sentiment. Equities remained volatile, with investors adopting a selective approach across sectors. In such an environment, stocks that have outperformed tend to experience sharper swings around earnings events, as traders rebalance portfolios.
Going forward, market participants will watch for updates on capacity expansion, debt management, and renewable energy integration, as these factors remain central to JSW Energy’s long-term outlook. While the quarterly results showed growth momentum at the topline, the immediate reaction suggests it was not enough to impress investors.
