Mumbai, October 1: The National Stock Exchange of India has received a No Objection Certificate from the Securities and Exchange Board of India for the proposed introduction of futures contracts on a Corporate Bond Index, marking a step towards expanding India’s exchange-traded fixed-income market.
According to NSE’s announcement, the proposed Corporate Bond Index Futures will give market participants an exchange-traded instrument to manage corporate bond market risk and support the development of India’s broader corporate bond derivatives market.
The product is intended to provide an additional avenue for risk management, portfolio hedging and price discovery in the corporate bond market. NSE said the futures could also support market-making activity by allowing participants to manage risks associated with their corporate bond portfolios.
The introduction of the product will, however, require requisite approval from the Reserve Bank of India.
Stock Market Snapshot
The NSE share price stood at ₹1,755.05 as of 9:32 AM IST on October 1, 2026.
The stock was down around ₹11.45, or 0.65%, from the previous close at the time. The previous session closed at ₹1,766.50.
Shares opened around ₹1,773 before moving lower during the early trading session. The decline came as NSE disclosed the SEBI NOC for the proposed Corporate Bond Index Futures.
Corporate Bond Futures To Support Risk Management
The proposed futures contract is designed to complement India’s expanding corporate bond market by providing another instrument for managing exposure to fixed-income assets.
For market participants, such a product can provide a mechanism for hedging corporate bond portfolios while also supporting price discovery through exchange-traded contracts. NSE said the initiative is part of its broader effort to deepen India’s fixed-income markets and widen the range of exchange-traded risk management products.
The exchange has not yet indicated a launch date, as the product remains subject to the required RBI approval.
NSE Expands Fixed-Income Market Offering
NSE operates across exchange listings, trading, clearing and settlement services, indices and market data. The proposed Corporate Bond Index Futures product adds to its efforts to expand the range of instruments available to participants beyond the existing equity and derivatives segments.
The exchange said the proposed product is aligned with its objective of building deeper and more liquid debt markets in India, while providing institutional participants with additional tools for managing fixed-income exposure.
Conclusion
NSE has received SEBI’s No Objection Certificate for the proposed introduction of Corporate Bond Index Futures, with the launch still subject to the requisite RBI approval.
The proposed product is aimed at supporting risk management, portfolio hedging and price discovery in India’s corporate bond market. The NSE share price stood at ₹1,755.05 as of 9:32 AM IST on October 1, 2026, down around ₹11.45 or 0.65% from the previous close.
