Mumbai, May 14: JSW Steel reported a sharp rise in earnings for the March quarter on the back of improved steel prices, better realisations and steady demand. To be sure, the strong show highlighted a recovery in the pricing environment countering higher input costs and global uncertainties.

JSW Steel posted consolidated revenue from operations of ₹51,180 crore for the March quarter, which exceeded estimates and showed an increase of 14.2% from a year ago. The performance was aided by higher sales volumes and stronger realizations across key markets. Domestic demand remained strong.

Profitability improved significantly during the quarter. Consolidated profit before exceptional items and tax more than doubled or surged 153% year on year to ₹4,489 crore. The sharp jump was driven primarily by better steel prices. Operating margins also improved despite costlier coking coal.

The company’s consolidated net profit climbed to ₹16,370 crore, on the back of a slump sale of the steel business of Bhushan Power and Steel. To be sure, this performance signalled both core operational strength and the one time impact of exceptional factors.

Margins expanded during the quarter, supported by a recovery in steel realizations. While raw material costs, including coking coal, remained elevated, JSW Steel was able to manage cost pressures. The improvement in pricing helped cushion the impact of input volatility and strengthened overall profitability.

The March quarter is typically favourable for the steel industry, and JSW rode the seasonal tailwinds to good effect. Demand from infrastructure projects and construction activity continued to provide steady support.

Despite ongoing global headwinds, including geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in energy markets, the company’s performance highlights the resilience of India’s domestic steel demand. The combination of price recovery, operational discipline and a favourable demand environment enabled JSW Steel to deliver robust growth.

The performance positions JSW Steel on firmer footing as it moves into the new financial year, with earnings trajectory closely tied to steel price trends, domestic demand conditions and input cost dynamics.
