Mumbai, October 7, 2025: Tata Motors Limited announced that its UK-based subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported a significant decline in sales for the second quarter of FY26. The sharp decline was largely driven by production halts after a cyber incident and the ongoing phase-out of older Jaguar models.
At the end of today’s trading session, Tata Motors Limited share price closed 2.055, or 14.60 points lower at ₹698.05.
Several Challenges Adding To Weaker Sales
In Q2 FY26, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported weaker sales due to several challenges. Wholesale volumes (excluding CJLR) stood at 66,165 units, down 24.2% year-on-year from 87,290 units. Retail sales (including CJLR) were 85,495 units, also showing a 17.1% decline compared to 103,150 units last year. The company’s main premium models, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender, together made up 76.7% of total wholesale volumes, showing continued focus on high-end vehicles. However, sales fell across key markets such as the UK (-32.3%), North America (-9.0%), Europe (-12.1%), China (-22.5%), MENA (-15.8%), and Overseas (-4.1%).
Performance was further affected by a cybersecurity issue in early September that disrupted production and shipments. Additionally, higher US tariffs and the planned discontinuation of old Jaguar models also led to weaker results for the quarter.
A Challenging Quarter For JLR
Adrian Mardell, CEO of JLR, said: “It has been a challenging quarter for JLR. In the first two months our performance was robust and in line with expectations. From the start of September, we have been responding to a cyber incident, which shut down our production. Since then, we have worked with retailers to prioritise delivery of our world-class vehicles to our clients.”
Purely Electric Future
JLR says it will publish its full Q2 FY26 results in November. It also confirmed a big plan for the future: by the end of this decade, Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender will each have a purely electric model, while Jaguar will become a fully electric brand, with no petrol or diesel cars.
