Nifty Rises Nearly 200 Points to Kick Off May Series

The Nifty began the May series on a positive note, rising 181 points to close at 24,177 after staging a strong morning rally before facing profit‑taking in the afternoon.

Heavyweights ITC, Tech Mahindra, and Reliance supported the move, while IndiGo, Dr. Reddy’s, and NTPC lagged. Sectoral trends were mixed, with FMCG, Realty, and Auto outperforming.

Midcaps underperformed smallcaps amid selective buying. The rupee weakened on higher crude prices and tight domestic liquidity.
