Mumbai, May 19, 2025 — Adani Defence & Aerospace has entered into a significant collaboration with Sparton (DeLeon Springs LLC), a subsidiary of Israeli defence firm Elbit Systems, to localise the production of advanced anti-submarine warfare (ASW) technologies in India. This partnership aims to reduce India’s reliance on foreign imports by assembling critical naval systems domestically, in line with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.

The agreement, signed on May 18, 2025, marks a key milestone as Adani Defence becomes the first private company in India to offer indigenously assembled sonobuoy solutions. Sonobuoys are vital tools in underwater surveillance, used to detect, locate, and track submarines and underwater threats. They play a crucial role in enhancing the Indian Navy’s undersea domain awareness and protecting naval operations.

For many years, India has depended heavily on global markets for these critical naval technologies, which have limited the country’s strategic autonomy in maritime defence. The new partnership with Sparton will enable the localisation of complex electronic sensors, navigation systems, and ASW solutions, combining Sparton’s advanced technology with Adani Defence’s manufacturing expertise.

Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Enterprises, emphasised the importance of this collaboration: “Strengthening India’s undersea warfare capabilities is essential for safeguarding our sovereignty and national interests. The Indian Navy needs mission-ready, indigenously developed systems that are not only effective but also globally competitive. Through this partnership, Adani Defence & Aerospace is proud to lead as the first private entity offering localised sonobuoy technology, fostering a self-reliant defence ecosystem.”

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, highlighted the strategic benefits of the deal: “This collaboration is a vital step towards reducing India’s dependence on imports for critical naval capabilities. By integrating world-class sonobuoy technology within India’s defence framework, we are advancing the country’s goal of building robust, homegrown defence solutions.”

Donnelly Bohan, President and CEO of Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, said, “Sparton has a longstanding tradition of delivering cutting-edge maritime defence systems. Partnering with Adani Defence & Aerospace will enable us to localise production, develop high-tech skills in India, and provide reliable anti-submarine warfare solutions tailored specifically to the Indian Navy’s requirements.”

This partnership follows a series of strategic moves by the Adani Group in the defence sector, including the acquisition of Bengaluru-based Alpha Design Technologies and a joint venture with Elbit Systems for manufacturing advanced UAVs. The group has also invested in small arms manufacturing through a majority stake acquisition in PLR Systems.

By fostering domestic production of sophisticated naval technologies, Adani Defence and Sparton are poised to contribute significantly to India’s maritime security and defence self-sufficiency. This initiative reflects the broader push within the country to reduce dependence on foreign defence suppliers while strengthening the capability of India’s armed forces through indigenous innovation.
