Mumbai, April 28: The Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex had broken a three-session losing streak on Monday, which was led by a rebound in information technology stocks. That recovery now appears to be reversing course as the Nifty 50 is down 0.31% and the Sensex is slipping 0.20% ahead of the opening bell.

A surge in oil prices is adding to the weakness in sentiment as tensions in the Middle East raise fears of inflation and input costs for import heavy India.

The GIFT Nifty futures were also down 0.42% marching in lockstep with early cues as well as global trends.

In markets across the globe, Asian equities traded with caution, struggling to extend gains after a recent rally amid profit booking as investors remained wary.

In America, shares closed on a steady note as indices held their ground despite adverse geopolitics and rising crude.

While Wall Street showed resilience—supported by optimism around corporate earnings, particularly in technology—gains were capped as stalled U.S.-Iran talks kept energy markets volatile and investors on edge.

In contrast, European markets closed lower, with the pan-European STOXX 600 snapping its recent winning streak. The decline was broad-based, reflecting heightened sensitivity to surging oil prices and concerns over their potential impact on economic growth in the region.

Back home, sentiment is also being tempered by a heavy earnings calendar, with several key companies set to report results through the week. Investors are likely to remain stock-specific, reacting sharply to earnings surprises while staying cautious on the broader market direction.

All told, the setup suggests a tentative start for Dalal Street. While Monday’s rebound offered some relief, the combination of weak global cues, rising oil prices and earnings uncertainty could keep markets volatile in the near term, with downside risks lingering in early trade.
