Coal India Signs MoU with CMDC for Critical Mineral Exploration

Kolkata, October 7, 2025: Coal India Limited (NSE: COALINDIA, BSE: 533278) has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with the Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Limited(CMDC). It is a state-owned enterprise of the Government of Chhattisgarh, to jointly pursue opportunities in the exploration and exploitation of critical and other minerals of mutual interest.
This collaboration will leverage Coal India’s mining expertise and CMDC’s regional mineral resources to enhance the domestic availability of critical minerals essential for sectors of strategic importance, including renewable energy, electric mobility, and advanced manufacturing.

On October 6, 2025, in Kolkata, Coal India Limited (CIL) and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Limited (CMDC) entered into a non-binding MoU to work together in exploring and developing critical and other minerals of interest to both parties, supporting collaboration in respect of mineral resources in India.
Market Reaction
Coal India’s stock opened higher at ₹384.00 and climbed to an intraday high of ₹388.95 before trading at ₹386.15 as of 11:40 am IST, up 1.11% from the previous close of ₹381.90. The company’s total market capitalization stood at approximately ₹2.38 lakh crore, with traded volume reaching 20.24 lakh shares and a traded value of ₹78.40 crore. The stock remains among the actively traded Nifty 50 constituents, reflecting investor optimism following the announcement of the MoU.

The MoU aligns with India’s national goal of reducing its import dependence on critical minerals, such as lithium, nickel, and rare earth elements.
