Glenmark has initiated a multi-country Phase 3 clinical trial for trastuzumab rezetecan in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, with India becoming the first licensed market to begin patient enrolment.

Mumbai, July 2: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. has moved a step closer in the development of its oncology pipeline, announcing the start of a multi-country Phase 3 clinical trial for trastuzumab rezetecan (SHR-A1811), an investigational HER2-targeted antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) being evaluated for patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer.
The company said its wholly owned subsidiary, Glenmark Specialty S.A., has received approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to begin enrolling patients in the study. India is the first of Glenmark’s licensed markets to commence enrolment, while patient recruitment is also planned in Australia and South Korea, subject to regulatory clearances.
The Phase 3 study is aligned with Chinese partner Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals’ ongoing global development programme. Designed as a randomised, controlled, multicentre trial, it will assess the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetics of trastuzumab rezetecan in patients with HER2-expressing platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, an area where treatment options remain limited after resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy develops.
According to the company, data generated across multiple geographies is expected to support future regulatory submissions and strengthen the clinical evidence for the therapy in Glenmark’s licensed markets.
Stock Market Snapshot
The clinical development update kept the stock in focus during Thursday’s trading session.
As of 9:23 AM IST on July 2, the Glenmark share price was trading at ₹2,170.00, up 0.37%.
While the announcement does not have an immediate financial impact, investors generally track late-stage clinical milestones closely as they improve visibility on a drug’s commercial potential and regulatory pathway. A successful Phase 3 programme is typically one of the final steps before seeking marketing approvals.

Oncology Pipeline Continues to Progress
Trastuzumab rezetecan targets HER2, a protein associated with several difficult-to-treat cancers, including breast, gastric and colorectal cancers. Glenmark licensed rights to develop and commercialise the therapy across multiple international markets from Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals in 2025.
The company noted that ovarian cancer remains one of the deadliest gynaecological cancers globally, with many patients eventually developing resistance to platinum-based therapies. By expanding the Phase 3 programme beyond China, Glenmark aims to generate broader clinical evidence across diverse patient populations.
The company has also highlighted recent regulatory progress for the molecule in other indications, including approvals and review processes in China for certain lung and breast cancer treatments, reflecting continued development of the broader asset.
Conclusion
The commencement of patient enrolment marks an important milestone in Glenmark’s oncology programme as the company advances one of its key late-stage drug candidates. Although clinical trials remain subject to regulatory review and outcome risks, the latest development reinforces Glenmark’s strategy of building a differentiated portfolio in specialty and innovative medicines while expanding its global oncology presence.
