Kolkata, July 24: Gold prices in Kolkata edged lower on Friday, extending the pullback for a second straight day after the strong rally earlier this week. The decline was marginal, however, with 24K, 22K and 18K gold each losing just ₹1 per gram.

The 24-karat gold rate stood at ₹14,617 per gram, compared with ₹14,618 on Thursday. The 22-karat rate slipped to ₹13,399 per gram, while 18-karat gold eased to ₹10,963 per gram.

For buyers, the ₹1 drop makes little difference to the overall jewellery bill. Gold is still considerably more expensive than it was a week ago, with much of Wednesday’s sharp ₹229 jump in the 24K rate still intact.

Gold Cools After a Sharp Midweek Rally

The latest dip follows a volatile few days for gold buyers in Kolkata.

The 24K rate was at ₹14,253 per gram on July 17 before climbing ₹76 on July 18. Prices were unchanged the following day, but the upward move resumed on July 20 and gathered pace from there.

Gold rose ₹76 on July 21 before surging ₹229 on July 22, taking the 24K rate to ₹14,651 per gram. That was the highest level recorded over the latest 10-day period.

The rally has lost some steam since. Gold dropped ₹33 on July 23 and another ₹1 on Friday, but at ₹14,617, the 24K rate remains only ₹34 below Wednesday’s peak.

What Would 10 Grams of 22K Jewellery Cost Today?

At today’s rate, 10 grams of 22K gold carries a base value of ₹1,33,990. A jewellery purchase, though, does not end at the metal price. Making charges and GST add to the final bill.

Assuming making charges of 12% and GST of 3%, the estimated cost works out to:

Component Amount
Gold value ₹1,33,990
Making charges (12%) ₹16,079
GST (3%) ₹4,502
Estimated final amount ₹1,54,571

This is an indicative calculation. The actual bill can change depending on the design, making charges, wastage and pricing policy of the jeweller.

10-Day Gold Price Trend

  • July 24: ₹14,617 (-₹1)
  • July 23: ₹14,618 (-₹33)
  • July 22: ₹14,651 (+₹229)
  • July 21: ₹14,422 (+₹76)
  • July 20: ₹14,346 (+₹17)
  • July 19: ₹14,329 (No change)
  • July 18: ₹14,329 (+₹76)
  • July 17: ₹14,253 (-₹76)
  • July 16: ₹14,329 (-₹28)
  • July 15: ₹14,357 (+₹77)

The 10-day movement tells a clearer story than Friday’s ₹1 decline alone. Gold initially struggled for direction, falling to ₹14,253 on July 17, before turning sharply higher.

From that low to the July 22 peak, 24K gold gained ₹398 per gram in just a few sessions. The correction since then has been relatively small, with only ₹34 erased from the peak.

Recent Gold Price Performance

Particulars 24K Gold 22K Gold
July 15 Price ₹14,357 ₹13,160
July 24 Price ₹14,617 ₹13,399
10-Day High ₹14,651 (July 22) ₹13,430 (July 22)
10-Day Low ₹14,253 (July 17) ₹13,065 (July 17)
Change since July 15 +₹260 +₹239

Despite the declines over the past two sessions, gold remains noticeably costlier than it was on July 15. The 24K rate is up ₹260 per gram over that period, while 22K gold has gained ₹239.

For someone purchasing 10 grams of 22K gold, the metal value alone is now ₹2,390 higher than it was on July 15.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Daily gold prices in Kolkata are shaped by both international and domestic factors. Global bullion prices are a major influence, while movements in the rupee against the US dollar can change the cost of importing gold into India.

Interest-rate expectations, inflation, central bank buying and geopolitical uncertainty can also influence demand for the precious metal. Since these factors can shift quickly, local gold rates may change even when jewellery demand in the city remains stable.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Kolkata slipped marginally on July 24, with 24K gold at ₹14,617 per gram, 22K gold at ₹13,399 and 18K gold at ₹10,963. Each category was cheaper by ₹1 per gram compared with the previous day.

The latest decline follows Thursday’s ₹33 fall in 24K gold, but the two-day correction has barely dented the rally seen earlier in the week. With 24K gold still just ₹34 below its recent high of ₹14,651, prices remain near the upper end of their 10-day range.
