Mumbai, June 19: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major metros on Thursday, even as global crude oil prices softened amid easing concerns over supply disruptions. Fuel rates in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai were steady, while select state capitals and urban centres witnessed marginal movements driven by local tax and transportation cost adjustments.
Among key cities, Gurgaon saw the sharpest increase in both petrol and diesel prices, while Bhubaneswar saw the biggest decline. Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram continued to rank among the most expensive cities for fuel, showing the significant impact of state-level taxes and levies on retail fuel prices across the country.
Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained unchanged across India’s four major metros on Thursday, with fuel retailing at ₹102.12 per litre in New Delhi, ₹113.51 in Kolkata, ₹111.18 in Mumbai and ₹107.77 in Chennai. The stability in metro-city prices comes despite recent volatility in global crude markets, as state-run fuel retailers continue to adjust rates selectively based on local taxes, transportation costs and other regional factors.
Among state capitals and key urban centres, price movements were mixed. Gurgaon recorded the sharpest increase, with petrol prices rising ₹0.48 per litre to ₹103.17, while Jaipur saw a ₹0.36 increase to ₹112.66. In contrast, Bhubaneswar witnessed the steepest decline, with prices falling ₹0.41 to ₹108.81 per litre. Smaller changes were recorded in Noida, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram, while Lucknow saw a modest decrease of ₹0.16. Hyderabad remained among the costliest cities for petrol at ₹115.73 per litre, reflecting the significant role of state-level taxes in determining retail fuel prices.
Diesel Prices
Diesel prices remained unchanged across India’s four metro cities on Thursday, with the fuel retailing at ₹95.20 per litre in New Delhi, ₹99.82 in Kolkata, ₹97.83 in Mumbai and ₹99.55 in Chennai. The stability in metro fuel rates comes even as global crude oil prices have softened in recent days, reflecting the gradual pass-through of international price movements and the influence of state-level taxes on retail fuel pricing.
Among major state capitals and urban centres, Gurgaon recorded the steepest increase, with diesel prices rising ₹0.47 per litre to ₹95.83, while Jaipur saw a ₹0.33 increase to ₹97.78. In contrast, Bhubaneswar posted the sharpest decline, with prices falling ₹0.40 to ₹100.52 per litre, followed by Lucknow where rates eased ₹0.19.
Thiruvananthapuram remained the costliest city in the list at ₹104.40 per litre, ahead of Hyderabad at ₹103.82, underscoring the wide variation in fuel prices across states due to differing tax structures and local levies.
