New Delhi, Aug 28: Silver prices in India eased on Friday morning, breaking a three-day streak of unchanged national rates. Today’s national rate for silver stands at ₹2,550 per 10 grams, ₹25,500 per 100 grams, and ₹2,55,000 per kilogram, down from ₹2,600, ₹26,000 and ₹2,60,000 respectively on Thursday. On a per-gram basis, that works out to ₹255, down from ₹260 — the first move in either direction for silver since Monday.

The decline marks a fall of ₹50 per 10 grams, ₹500 per 100 grams, and ₹5,000 per kilogram from Thursday’s national rate — equivalent to a per-gram drop of ₹5, or close to 1.92%. The move ends a stretch of three consecutive flat sessions from Tuesday through Thursday and comes even as gold posted a much sharper fall of its own on Friday, suggesting the two precious metals moved in the same direction for the first time this week after diverging through the middle sessions.

Silver price in India is determined largely by international prices, which move in either direction depending on global industrial demand, investment flows and mining supply. Currency movement also plays a part: if the rupee weakens against the dollar while international silver prices hold firm, the metal tends to become costlier in India. Friday’s decline suggests global spot silver prices eased overnight, breaking the steady pattern that had held through the middle of the week.

Dealers said Friday’s fall mirrored the broader profit-booking seen in gold, with both precious metals coming under pressure after last week’s rally. Traders said silver’s near-term direction will likely hinge on fresh cues from the US Federal Reserve and any further movement in the US-Iran standoff, alongside industrial demand from electronics and solar-panel manufacturers, with Friday’s dip suggesting some of that demand may be cooling alongside broader investment flows.

Market participants added that silver continues to draw interest from retail investors looking for a lower-cost alternative to gold, and Friday’s pullback could offer a more comfortable entry point after three sessions of steady pricing. On a per-kilogram basis, Friday’s rates fall to ₹2,60,000 in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala, and ₹2,55,000 in the remaining seven cities — down ₹5,000 across every market from Thursday. Retail buyers are reminded that these are indicative bullion rates, and actual prices at silverware and jewellery counters will typically include additional making charges and applicable GST.

Market watchers said Friday’s uniform ₹50 decline, coming after three sessions of complete stability, suggests silver is now tracking gold’s broader pullback rather than holding its own separate equilibrium. With gold posting a much sharper fall of its own on Friday, dealers said the coming week will be key to determining whether silver continues to correct alongside gold or reverts to its recent pattern of relative steadiness.

Historically, silver has traded at a small fraction of gold’s price per gram, and Friday’s decline did little to change that broad relationship even as both metals fell together for the first time this week. Analysts tracking the gold-silver ratio said the synchronised move suggests markets are responding to the same macro drivers across both metals on Friday, in contrast to the divergence seen through the middle of the week when silver held steady while gold slipped. That said, silver’s added industrial-use component means it can still decouple from gold again during periods when manufacturing or green-energy demand shifts independently of investment sentiment.

Senco Gold’s stock extended its slide on Friday, continuing to trade below the price at which Vision Ahead Services Private Limited had acquired its 10,00,064-share stake earlier in the week, in a bulk deal worth approximately ₹36.56 crore at ₹365.66 per share. The stock’s decline came even as silver prices themselves broke their three-day flat run on Friday.
