Mumbai, October 22: Petrol and diesel prices today, October 22, remained unchanged across major Indian cities, with no revisions in retail fuel rates. Petrol was priced at Rs 102.12 per litre in Delhi and Rs 111.21 in Mumbai, while diesel rates stood at Rs 95.20 and Rs 97.83 per litre, respectively. Hyderabad recorded petrol at Rs 116.15 per litre, while diesel was costliest among the listed cities in Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 104.40 per litre. Fuel prices vary across cities due to differences in state taxes and transportation costs.
Crude oil prices rose on Thursday, October 22, as escalating tensions in the Middle East raised concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies. Brent crude futures climbed 1.6% to $110.5 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained 1.3% to $98.4 per barrel.
The rally followed fresh attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militants on targets in Saudi Arabia, prompting the United States to order non-emergency government personnel and their families to leave the Kingdom. The attacks reportedly killed at least one person and injured eight others at a civilian airport in Dammam, while a drone strike on a Saudi oil field killed two people.
The escalation has heightened concerns about the security of energy infrastructure and shipping routes across the Gulf. Shipping data from Kpler showed at least 18 attacks on vessels over the preceding two weeks, while LSEG analysts warned that threats to tankers operating beyond the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt crude loadings and ship-to-ship transfers in the region.
Separately, US crude inventories fell by 3.06 million barrels to 412.5 million barrels last week, according to the US Energy Information Administration, significantly exceeding analysts’ expectations for a draw of 820,000 barrels. The decline provided additional support to prices, although distillate inventories, which include diesel and heating oil, rose by 1.68 million barrels.
For India, a sustained rise in crude oil prices could increase the country’s import bill, add to inflationary pressures and weigh on corporate margins. Higher energy costs could also influence investor sentiment towards sectors such as aviation, paints, oil marketing and logistics, while upstream oil producers may benefit from firmer crude prices.
