Middle East Conflict

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that American troops in the Middle East would not leave until there was a “real agreement” in place that the United States could completely verify and comply with. He added that Washington will give Iran a “response like they’ve never seen before” if they violate it, with a military action “bigger, better, and stronger than has ever been seen before.”

Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticized the US for breaking the two-week agreement on ceasefire over Israeli attacks in Lebanon and drone attacks and said further talks with the US were “unreasonable.” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. was not aware of any attacks from Iran against Israel and the United States were committed to the ceasefire. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said earlier that Tehran has completed a “very important” nuclear deal inspection, and that inspections were to be “intensified”.

Asian shares and oil prices climbed on Thursday after US President Donald Trump warned of a “very strong” military response if Iran violated an agreement and Tehran said it did not plan to meet with Washington, despite a deal to end a brief confrontation in the Gulf.

Spot Gold Prices Up

Spot gold prices were up 0.4% at $1,891.16 per ounce. Brent crude oil futures jumped 2.03% to $96.92 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 3% to $97.39 a barrel. Crude prices gained on concern that supply would be disrupted if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed as Iran accused the US of breaking the ceasefire agreement on Thursday.

The RBI has also announced to conduct a crucial monetary policy review today. Traders are awaiting central bank comments on interest rate and its revised growth and inflation estimates.

On Wednesday, Indian stock markets hit a record high with the 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex breaching the 78,000 level on strong cues from Wall Street, which set a new all-time high for the fourth straight session on Wednesday, as investors piled into tech companies while the S&P 500 edged to within 1% of its latest record. Sensex ended 2,318.93 points or 3.20% higher at 74,551.90, and Nifty 50 closed 700.65 points or 3.10% up at 23,357.95. At the beginning of the trade, the Nifty 50 index opened at 23,909.05 and the Sensex opened at around 77,562.90.
