Cabinet Clearing ₹69,725 Crore Maritime Package

The shares are on the rise due to the Union Cabinet clearing a ₹69,725 crore package to strengthen India’s shipbuilding and maritime ecosystem. The gains in the shares showcase investor optimism that the package will help unlock long-term growth in the domestic shipbuilding, defense, and maritime infrastructure sectors.

The ₹69,725 crore package will focus on four factors: expansion of Indian shipbuilding capacity, a ₹25,000 crore Maritime Development Fund to support long-term financing, greenfield and brownfield shipyard development, and technology enhancement, skilling, and other policy reforms.

Key schemes include the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme (SBFAS), with a corpus of ₹24,736 crore, extended till 31st March and including a ₹4,001 crore shipbreaking credit note. The Shipbuilding Development Scheme, with an outlay of ₹19,989 crore, aims to boost infrastructure. Additionally, the National Shipbuilding Mission has been created to support execution and oversight.

The new schemes under the package will help India to strengthen its global shipbuilding industry, along with generating employment and improving technical skills. It will also drive healthy competition in the maritime sector and drive sustainable growth in the future.
