Mumbai, October 15: Shares of Vodafone Idea, PC Jeweller and IDBI Bank were among the stocks attracting investor attention on the NSE on Thursday, October 15, amid company-specific developments and shifting market sentiment. Vodafone Idea gained 1.03% as optimism around Reliance Jio Platforms’ proposed IPO lifted telecom stocks, while PC Jeweller slipped 0.4% despite recent business updates. IDBI Bank plunged 6.96% after the Cabinet approved a Rs 52,878-crore stake sale to Fairfax Financial Holdings. Meanwhile, Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund declined 3.30% amid pressure on silver prices following concerns over US inflation and interest rates.

PC Jeweller Limited (down 0.4%)

PC Jeweller shares declined on Thursday after rebounding in the previous session, although the stock remained up 1.5% over the past five trading days. The jewellery retailer reported a 28% year-on-year rise in consolidated revenue for the September quarter last week, pointing to demand for its products.

The company also recovered around Rs 142 crore in outstanding export receivables during the quarter. These collections marked the initial recovery following negotiations and the resolution of the matter concerning the pending dues.

In a major balance-sheet improvement, PC Jeweller recently repaid all its outstanding bank borrowings ahead of schedule, making the company debt-free. The development is expected to lower interest costs and strengthen its financial position.

The latest developments follow a strong June quarter, when PC Jeweller’s consolidated net profit climbed 37.2% year-on-year to Rs 222 crore, while revenue from operations rose 21% to Rs 877 crore. The company also raised Rs 500 crore through a preferential share issue in September, further bolstering its capital base.

Vodafone Idea Limited (up 1.03%)

Vodafone Idea shares rose on Thursday, tracking gains across telecom stocks as investor interest in Reliance Jio Platforms’ proposed initial public offering (IPO) lifted sentiment towards the sector. The planned listing is expected to provide a clearer valuation benchmark for telecom businesses and could support a broader re-rating of industry stocks. Bharti Airtel led the sectoral gains, while Reliance Industries also traded higher.

The proposed Jio Platforms IPO is emerging as a key trigger for the telecom sector, with the Mukesh Ambani-led company seeking a valuation of around Rs 10.3 lakh crore to Rs 10.8 lakh crore, based on its announced price band of Rs 1,065-1,119 per share. The issue is set to become India’s largest-ever IPO, offering investors a direct opportunity to invest in Jio’s digital and telecom businesses. The listing could help investors assess the relative valuations of Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea more clearly.

Another factor supporting sentiment is the prospect of a mobile tariff increase later this year. A broker has projected a potential 15% hike in smartphone tariffs from December 2026, which could improve average revenue per user (ARPU) and earnings visibility across the sector. The brokerage believes the Jio listing, alongside progress on Vodafone Idea’s fundraising plans, could improve pricing discipline and create room for higher tariffs.

For Vodafone Idea, any improvement in industry pricing could be particularly significant given the company’s need to strengthen its financial position and fund network expansion. Higher tariffs could improve revenue generation and cash flows, while a successful fundraising programme could help support capital expenditure and competitiveness. However, the benefits will depend on the timing and scale of tariff increases, subscriber trends and the company’s ability to translate higher revenue into sustainable financial improvement. The proposed Jio IPO may provide a positive sector-wide trigger, but Vodafone Idea’s longer-term performance will continue to depend on execution, funding and its ability to compete with larger rivals.

Tata Mutual Fund Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund (down 3.30%)

Tata Mutual Fund’s Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund fell 3.30% as silver prices came under pressure following stronger-than-expected US inflation data, which strengthened expectations of higher interest rates and supported the US dollar. Elevated crude oil prices and uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook also weighed on precious metals, with silver particularly vulnerable to the prospect of higher-for-longer interest rates.

IDBI Bank Limited (down 6.96%)

IDBI Bank shares plunged as much as 7% on Thursday after the Union Cabinet approved the sale of a 60.72% stake in the lender to Canada-based Fairfax Financial Holdings for Rs 52,878 crore. The stock declined as investors booked profits following a sharp rally in the previous session. Fairfax’s offer of Rs 81 per share is at a 11% discount to IDBI Bank’s previous close.
