It was originally incorporated on July 25, 1966 as a private limited company under the name Nitco Tiles Private Limited. The company has its registered office at Nitco House, Recondo Compound, S K Ahire Marg, Worli, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The company was founded by Pran Nath Amar Nath Talwar in 1953, and the flagship brand NITCO was established in 1953 as a partnership firm by the founder. On January 25, 1996, the company got converted into a public limited company and the name was changed to Nitco Tiles Limited. Subsequently, the company changed its name from Nitco Tiles Limited to Nitco Limited with effect from July 10, 2008. The company started its operations with a mosaic tile manufacturing facility at Thane, Maharashtra, having an initial capacity of 0.6 million sq feet per annum. Over the decades, it has expanded its manufacturing capabilities with facilities in Maharashtra and Silvassa, and has also diversified into real estate development through its wholly owned subsidiary Nitco Realties Pvt Ltd. The company has three product segments: Vitrified tiles (sourced from Chinese manufacturers and manufactured gres porcelain tiles), Ceramic tiles (including glossy, matt, wood, metal, stone, leather, rustic, dirt-free and glazed aqua finishes), and Marble (sourcing multiple shades and patterns from Italy and other countries).
Nitco operates in the global and Indian ceramic tiles industry. Globally, the ceramic tiles market continues to expand driven by urbanization, construction activity, and rising demand for aesthetic flooring solutions. In India, the ceramic tiles industry is one of the fastest-growing segments within the building materials sector, supported by government initiatives such as the Smart Cities Mission, Housing for All scheme, and increased infrastructure spending. The India ceramic tiles market size stood at USD 10.45 billion in 2025 and is forecast to reach USD 15.84 billion by 2030, expanding at an 8.67% CAGR during 2025-2030. Other estimates project the market to reach USD 19.71 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 13.54%. The market displayed a historical CAGR of 9.23% from 2020 to 2024, with the growth rate from 2023 to 2024 recorded at 6.47%. India is the second-largest producer and seller of ceramic tiles globally, with organized players accounting for roughly half of the market size. The top players including Kajaria Ceramics, Somany Ceramics, Nitco, and Asian Granito control the majority (~55% of organized players). The industry is witnessing a shift towards large-format tiles, digital printing technology, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Key growth drivers include rapid urbanization, rising real estate development, increasing renovation and remodeling activities, and growing demand for premium and designer tiles. The industry faces challenges including raw material price volatility (clay, feldspar, quartz, zirconium silicate), high energy costs, intense competition, and environmental compliance requirements. The industry outlook remains positive, supported by sustained government focus on infrastructure, rising disposable incomes, and increasing preference for branded and premium tile products.
