Mumbai, Sep 23: Mumbai, Sep 23: Indian markets kicked off trading on a higher note today as the global markets remained stable with some volatility. Global sentiment was driven by the ongoing 7-month war between Iran and tensions around the UN meeting. Sensex opened at 74672.65 which is 143.57 points higher i.e 0.19% higher. Nifty 50 opened at 23378.00 which is 49.00 points higher i.e 0.21% higher at 9.27 AM. The two benchmark indices recovered from Tuesday’s losses where both closed in negative territory due to decline in stocks from information technology, financials and capital goods sectors.
The global markets remained volatile as US and Iran are going at each other with strong verbal statements. But there are ongoing talks to end the war. US President Donald Trump stated that he will annihilate Iran if they don’t reach a deal to stop the war. But also mentioned that a deal can be reached anytime soon. “I have a big decision to make”
Trump said in a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, laying out the stark choice between letting Iran “rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before” or moving to end the Islamic Republic “quickly”. The remarks, delivered even as US and Iranian mediators held extended talks on the sidelines of the UN gathering, have kept energy markets and, by extension, import-dependent economies like India on edge, given crude oil’s outsized influence on the country’s inflation and current account arithmetic.
An official from Iran spoke to Reuters that they may reopen the Strait of Hormuz within days. If the US stops applying military pressure on them and lifts the blockade. They have already sent their offer to the US through mediators and if accepted can open the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days. The strait was used to transport about a fifth of the world’s oil and gas before the war broke out. So this could cause oil prices to drop which may effect stock prices here on Dalal street.

Iran’s armed forces called it propaganda and stated that they are fully prepared to strike back at the aggressors with more devastating and unexpected attacks. US mediator Steve Witkoff stated that the US and Iran had lengthy talks throughout the day and hopes it will be constructive and lead to something positive. There has been talk of Iran opening the strait of Hormuz if the US eases military pressure on them. Which can lower crude oil prices and help stock prices on Dalal street.
