Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a PSE under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, has cemented its strategic partnership with Drydocks World, a member of DP World, for improving the ship repair and offshore fabrication capabilities of India.

Partnership Details

The tie-up is based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that recently got inked when H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence recently visited the nation.

The accord brings international best practices into India’s shipping realm in a manner that facilitates the country’s nationwide projects such as Maritime India Vision 2030.

The signing of the MoU was attended by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman & CEO of DP World as well as Madhu S Nair, Chairman & Managing Director of CSL.

The CEO of Drydocks World, Captain Rado Antolovic headed a delegation on May 1-2 to CSL and visited the key facilities including the new 310-metre Dry Dock, International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF), and the Marine Engineering Training Institute in Kochi.

Areas of Focus:

During the visit, CSL and Drydocks World conducted strategic sessions to implement the MoU. The areas of focus are:

  • Joint operations at ISRF Kochi as the first step
  • Expansion to other Indian facilities
  • Development of skilling initiatives through marine engineering training
  • Enabling offshore fabrication and high-end ship repair

Future Outlook:

The strengthened partnership will:

  • Be able to enhance India’s capability to serve domestic and foreign fleets
  • Create skilled employment opportunities
  • Enable India’s vision to become a self-reliant maritime hub
  • Enable long-term national goals under Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047

This partnership is a milestone achievement in India’s mission to build a shipbuilding and repair industry that is globally competitive with world-class infrastructure and innovation-led growth.
