EU follows US in imposing sanctions on Russian oil & gas firms

US equity markets gained yesterday, 23rd October, 2025. Nasdaq ended the day, up by 201.40 points or 0.89%. Dow Jones ended the day, up by 144.20 points or 0.31%. S&P 500 ended the day, up by 39.04 points or 0.58%. Reports of US and China progressing towards talks to resolve trade issues gave some boost to market sentiments. Union Pacific, the railroad operator, posted profits in the September quarter, that exceeded expectations.
European Union imposes sanctions on Russian oil & gas firms
European Union followed United States in sanctioning a number of large Russian oil & gas firms. European Union will stop importing natural gas from Russia from 2027 if it did not agree to a ceasefire immediately.
European markets closed the day in green
European markets also closed in green, yesterday. Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day, up by 29.12 points or 0.52%. Dax ended the day, up by 56.66 points or 0.23%. FTSE 100 ended the day, up by 63.57 points or 0.67%.
Asian markets have begun the day strongly in green
Nikkei 225 is up again today. At 9:00 a.m. IST, 24th October, 2025, Nikkei 225 is up by 657.51 points or 1.35%. Kospi is up by 73.21 points or 1.90%. Hang Seng is up by 139.86 points or 0.54%. Shanghai is up by 16.36 points or 0.42%.
Indian equity markets saw some sharp profit booking in the last 1 hour of trading yesterday. On the back of strong positive cues from foreign markets, Indian equity markets are likely to start the day in green, today.
