Dabhol, June 6, 2025 — GAIL (India) Limited (NSE: GAIL-EQ, BSE: 532155), a Maharatna PSU and India’s leading natural gas company, has marked a significant operational milestone by successfully berthing and discharging its first LNG vessel, GAIL Bhuwan, at the Dabhol LNG Terminal during the monsoon season. This achievement follows the completion and commissioning of the terminal’s long-awaited Breakwater Project, setting the stage for capacity expansion.

All-Weather Capability Achieved

The successful arrival of GAIL Bhuwan on June 2, 2025, was overseen by Chairman & Managing Director Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta and Director (Marketing) Shri Sanjay Kumar. The completion of the breakwater has officially transformed the Dabhol terminal into an all-weather port, allowing uninterrupted LNG operations year-round, including during the challenging southwest monsoon season.

Strategic Infrastructure Upgrade

Located along Maharashtra’s coast, the Dabhol LNG Terminal plays a critical role in India’s gas logistics network, with direct connections via the Dabhol-Bangalore and Dabhol-Panvel pipelines. With a regasification capacity of 5.0 MMTPA, the facility is expected to gain further strategic importance following its transformation into a monsoon-resilient terminal.

GAIL’s innovative island breakwater design is distinct from traditional land-connected systems and required sophisticated marine engineering solutions along with collaboration across multiple stakeholders. The success of this project now enables larger and more frequent vessel access, enhancing operational flexibility and capacity utilization.

Expansion Plans Underway

GAIL has announced its plans to expand the terminal’s capacity to 6.3 MMTPA. The first phase of expansion will be completed over the next three years. Upon completion, the terminal is projected to handle up to 100 LNG cargoes annually. This expansion will significantly reinforce India’s energy security and diversifying supply sources.

Outlook

The Dabhol LNG Terminal’s upgrade, including its new all-season capability, arrives at a crucial time. As India ramps up its energy transition and infrastructure buildout, the terminal is now positioned to play a central role in supporting industrial demand. Among other things, the current and future upgrades are deemed to reduce carbon intensity and enhance domestic energy availability.

This landmark success further strengthens GAIL’s role as a backbone of India’s gas economy and affirms its commitment to sustainable and secure energy delivery.
