Indian markets end the day strongly in green; Adani Enterprises top gainer; Hero Motors top loser

Indian stock markets ended the day, strongly in green, today, 11th August, 2025. Nifty 50 ended the day, up by 221.75 points or 0.91%. Sensex ended the day, up by 746.29 points or 0.93%. Indian equity markets gained today, in spite of the prevailing uncertainty regarding the Indo-US trade deal.

Expectation of a possible ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine may have provided respite

Markets may have got some respite in the news that US President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet on August 15th and a ceasefire deal between Ukraine and Russia may take place. If a ceasefire deal happens then India may escape the additional tariff of 25% that has been imposed on it for buying Russian oil.

Top 3 gainers

Top 3 gainers at Nifty 50 today were Adani Enterprises, Tata Motors, and Eternal (Zomato). Adani Enterprises gained 4.23%. It saw buying on dips after the decline of the past few days. Even after including the gains of today, the stock has lost 11.28% in the past 1 month.

Tata Motors stock gained 3.20%. It saw kind of value buying today. The company’s exports are going to be hurt by the higher US tariffs that came into force on August 7th.

Eternal ‘s stock price gained 2.69% today. Some top executives of the company exercised their stock options to buy the shares of the company.

Top 3 losers

Top 3 losers at Nifty 50 today were Hero Motors, BEL and Bharti Airtel. Hero Motors’ stock lost 0.76% today. The stock saw some short term profit booking today. The stock price has gained 8.61% in the past one month. BEL’s stock lost 0.23% today. Bharti Airtel’s stock lost 0.18% today. This, after a promoter entity sold its 0.98% stake in the company on Friday.

Market breadth was positive today; volatility increased

Market volatility increased today. Nifty VIX index increased by 1.54%. This means that markets expect volatility to increase significantly over the next 30 days.

Market breadth also turned positive today. At NSE, 1606, stocks gained today. 1414 stocks declined.
