Mumbai, June 23: Infosys clocks about annualised $1 billion of AI services revenue and the segment is growing at a very good pace, its CEO Salil Parikh said today with the IT firm actively working with major global AI and computing firms as demand for enterprise AI spikes.
Speaking at the company’s 45th Annual General Meeting, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh, said: “Modernisation of technology using agents is one of the largest areas today.”
Chairman Nandan Nilekani, also speaking at the AGM, said artificial intelligence is reshaping the global technology landscape but is unlikely to replace established IT firms that successfully adapt to the shift, even as the company reported strong traction in its AI-led business.
Nilekani added that AI is accelerating structural change across enterprises but will ultimately reward firms that evolve with the technology rather than those displaced by it. “AI will not replace a company like ours but amplify those who move with purpose,” he told shareholders.
He noted that the rapid adoption of AI has made legacy system upgrades more urgent for global enterprises. “The AI revolution has made legacy modernisation urgent in a way nothing else has,” Nilekani said.
Nilekani also pointed to a shift in enterprise software strategy, suggesting that companies are increasingly moving toward building capabilities in-house rather than relying entirely on external software purchases. “The preference will be to build versus buy for software,” he said.
He further emphasised that long-term value will emerge from the convergence of AI models and agents with core transactional systems, signalling a deeper integration of next-generation tools into enterprise operations.
The commentary highlights how leading Indian IT firms are positioning themselves at the centre of enterprise AI transformation, even as questions persist around disruption risks from rapidly advancing generative AI technologies.
