Kolkata: Jupiter Wagons Ltd on Monday said it has secured private sector orders worth over Rs 324 crore from GATX India and Chetak International for the supply of 15 rakes of its ACT2 automobile carrier wagons.
The combined business comprises a Letter of Intent (LoI) from GATX India for 10 rakes, comprising 270 wagons, valued at Rs 214.94 crore, and an order from Chetak International for five rakes, comprising 135 wagons, worth Rs 109.10 crore, the company said in a statement on Monday.
The total order value of Rs 324.04 crore includes GST.
The fresh orders underline growing demand for the company’s new-design ACT2 wagon platform among private wagon-leasing and logistics operators, even as it continues to secure business from Indian Railways.
Jupiter Wagons had recently received an order worth Rs 1,140 crore from the Railway Board for the manufacture and supply of 2,583 wagons.
Commenting on the development, Jupiter Wagons Managing Director Vivek Lohia said the orders reflected the confidence of private wagon-leasing and logistics operators in its ACT2 platform and manufacturing capabilities.
“As India moves a greater share of its freight to rail, we are seeing strong, broad-based demand across both the Indian Railways programme and the private sector,” he said.
