Mumbai, May 11: Tata Consumer Products was the top Nifty 50 gainer on Monday, surging 8.05 per cent to close at ₹1,270.90 in a session where FMCG, healthcare, and energy stocks led the index higher even as broader market sentiment remained cautious amid the continuing Iran-US standoff. Max Healthcare, Coal India, Sun Pharmaceutical, Hindustan Unilever, and Grasim Industries also featured among the six biggest index gainers, advancing between 0.49 per cent and 2.72 per cent as investors sought refuge in defensive and consumption-driven large-caps following US President Donald Trump’s rejection of Iran’s latest peace proposal over the weekend.
Tata Consumer Products -Up 8.05%
Tata Consumer Products was the runaway leader among Nifty 50 gainers on Monday, surging 8.05 per cent to close at ₹1,270.90 from its previous close of ₹1,176.20 on the NSE. The FMCG major opened at ₹1,202.20, scaled an intraday high of ₹1,279.40, and held firmly above its opening level through the session with a low of ₹1,200. A total of 1.92 crore shares worth approximately ₹2,385.87 crore were traded during the day, making it comfortably the most actively traded counter by value among Monday’s top gainers. Investor appetite for the Tata Group consumer play remained strong as markets rotated toward quality FMCG names in the face of macro uncertainty.

Max Healthcare- Up 2.72%
Max Healthcare was the second-biggest Nifty 50 gainer on Monday, rising 2.72 per cent to close at ₹1,040 from its previous close of ₹1,012.50. The private hospital chain opened at ₹1,012.50, climbed steadily to an intraday high of ₹1,041.80, and sustained its gains through the session with a low of ₹1,003.85. A total of 30.43 lakh shares worth approximately ₹313.87 crore changed hands during the day. The healthcare sector remained a bright spot on Dalal Street on Monday, with investors treating hospital stocks as a safe harbour amid the geopolitical turbulence stemming from the West Asia conflict.

Coal India- Up 1.59%
Coal India was the third-biggest gainer on the Nifty 50 on Monday, advancing 1.59 per cent to close at ₹463.65 from its previous close of ₹456.40. The state-owned coal miner opened at ₹456, touched an intraday high of ₹465.75, and held its gains through the session with a low of ₹452.85. A total of 62.58 lakh shares worth approximately ₹288.89 crore were traded. Coal India’s steady performance reflected continued investor interest in domestic energy producers at a time when oil import costs are surging and the government’s push for energy conservation is drawing attention to local fuel alternatives.

Sun Pharmaceutical- Up 1.47%
Sun Pharmaceutical advanced 1.47 per cent on Monday to close at ₹1,875 from its previous close of ₹1,847.90. India’s largest pharma company by market capitalisation opened at ₹1,827.20, scaled an intraday high of ₹1,885.80, and maintained its upward trajectory through the session with a low of ₹1,825. A total of 25.65 lakh shares worth approximately ₹480.10 crore were traded. Sun Pharma’s gain mirrored the broader healthcare sector outperformance on the day, as the defensive nature of pharmaceuticals drew steady institutional flows even as benchmark indices came under pressure from geopolitical headwinds.

Hindustan Unilever – Up 0.97%
Hindustan Unilever gained 0.97 per cent on Monday to close at ₹2,309.90 from its previous close of ₹2,287.70. The FMCG bellwether opened at ₹2,277.10, climbed to an intraday high of ₹2,317.10, and held above its opening level through the session with a low of ₹2,259.20. A total of 19.04 lakh shares worth approximately ₹437.98 crore changed hands during the day. HUL’s resilience on a difficult Monday underscored the broader trend of investor rotation toward staples, with the company’s wide product portfolio and pricing power making it a preferred defensive pick when risk sentiment dims across the Street.

Grasim Industries – Up 0.49%
Grasim Industries rounded out the top six Nifty 50 gainers on Monday, rising 0.49 per cent to close at ₹2,983 from its previous close of ₹2,968.60. The Aditya Birla Group flagship opened at ₹2,954.10, touched an intraday high of ₹3,007.30, and held its gains through the session with a low of ₹2,928. A total of 5.68 lakh shares worth approximately ₹169.18 crore were traded. While Grasim’s gain was the most modest of the six, its presence in the gainers’ list on a broadly weak day reflects steady investor confidence in the diversified conglomerate’s exposure to paints, cement, and financial services — sectors that continue to command long-term institutional interest.
