Market Context
The sharp drop in Axis Bank weighed on the index despite strength in mid-tier private lenders like RBL and Bandhan Bank. With broader market sentiment subdued, the sector failed to build on recent gains despite the Nifty Private Bank index being just 3.25% below its 52-week high.
As of the latest data, the capital markets remain open with a balanced advance-decline ratio in the private banking space, but the index is under pressure from blue-chip lenders.
