Tata Power Company Limited and Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation Limited expanded their clean energy partnership by adding a 404 MW hydropower project, taking the identified Bhutan hydro pipeline above 5,000 MW.

Mumbai, May 8: Tata Power said it has expanded its clean energy partnership with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) by adding the 404 MW Nyera Amari I & II Integrated Hydropower Project to their existing development pipeline.
The addition was made through an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding originally signed between the two companies on November 19, 2024, a company press release said on Friday.
With the inclusion of the Nyera Amari I & II project, the total identified hydropower capacity under the Tata Power-DGPC partnership has increased to 5,033 MW from the earlier planned 4,500 MW.
The companies said the expanded collaboration supports Bhutan’s long-term target of achieving 25,000 MW power generation capacity by 2040 while strengthening regional energy integration and energy security.
The projects are expected to be developed through mutually agreed equity participation structures.
Both companies also indicated that they would continue exploring additional hydropower opportunities as part of the broader cross-border clean energy partnership.
Tata Power noted that construction activity has already begun on the Khorlochhu (600 MW) and Dorjilung (1,125 MW) hydropower projects, which together account for nearly 35% of the currently committed portfolio.
The expansion reflects increasing focus on regional renewable energy cooperation between India and Bhutan as both countries push for larger clean energy generation capacity.
Share Market Snapshot
Tata Power share price traded lower despite the announcement of the expanded hydropower pipeline.
The stock traded at ₹436.50 on May 8, down 0.63% from the previous close of ₹439.25, according to market data.
As of 1:17 p.m. IST, the shares remained in negative territory during the trading session.

Company Continues Expanding Renewable Energy Portfolio
Tata Power Company Limited operates across power generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy businesses.

Its partnership with DGPC extends back more than a decade and includes the 126 MW Dagachhu Hydropower Project, Bhutan’s first public-private hydropower partnership commissioned in 2008.
Druk Green Power Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of Druk Holding and Investments Limited, is Bhutan’s primary hydropower generation utility and continues to pursue long-term hydro and renewable energy expansion plans.
Conclusion
The addition of the 404 MW Nyera Amari I & II project pushes the Tata Power-DGPC hydropower pipeline above 5 GW and strengthens the companies’ regional clean energy partnership.
While Tata Power shares traded lower during the session, the development highlights ongoing momentum in cross-border renewable energy collaboration and long-term hydropower expansion initiatives between India and Bhutan.
