New Delhi, July 28: Petrol and diesel prices showed mixed movements across major Indian cities on Tuesday, with rates remaining unchanged in the national capital while several other cities recorded sharp increases or declines. Chandigarh saw the steepest rise in both petrol and diesel prices among the cities tracked, while Hyderabad continued to record the highest fuel rates in the list. Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru, meanwhile, saw fuel prices decline.

Oil prices declined over 1% on Tuesday as investors assessed the prospects of a sustained pause in hostilities between the United States and Iran and the possibility of a gradual recovery in crude supplies from the Middle East.

Brent crude futures fell 1.4% to $87 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude declined the same to trade at $81.5 a barrel. The decline came as markets weighed the potential for easing geopolitical tensions to reduce disruptions to oil flows from the region.

The pause in US strikes on Iran has eased some of the immediate supply concerns that had pushed crude prices higher. Investors are now watching for signs of a longer-term diplomatic resolution that could allow disrupted production and exports to recover.

However, uncertainty remains high, with the outlook for crude prices still closely tied to developments in the conflict and the extent to which oil supplies from the Middle East are affected.

A sustained decline in oil prices would offer some relief to major crude importers such as India by easing pressure on the import bill, inflation and the rupee. Lower energy costs could also support corporate margins and improve investor sentiment towards sectors sensitive to fuel prices.

Markets are likely to remain focused on the trajectory of US-Iran tensions and any signs of changes in regional oil production and exports, with further developments expected to influence crude prices and broader risk sentiment.
