Mumbai, June 12: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across metros and state capitals on Friday. While rates were stable in key markets such as New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, the city of Patna witnessed the steepest increase in both petrol and diesel prices. Marginal upticks were also witnessed in Chennai, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram, while cities including Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru and Gurgaon recorded slight declines, reflecting routine local adjustments in fuel pricing.
Moreover, oil prices fell for a second straight session on Friday, extending sharp losses from the previous day after U.S. President Donald Trump cancelled planned military strikes on Iran. Brent crude futures dropped 1.7% to $88.81 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 1.6% to $86.31. Both benchmarks are headed for weekly losses of more than 4%.
To be sure, state-run fuel retailers had implemented another round of fuel price hikes on May 25, marking the fourth increase in just 10 days amid a sustained rally in global crude oil prices. Petrol became costlier by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel prices were raised by ₹2.71 per litre as oil marketing companies sought to restore squeezed marketing margins.
