President Trump says additional tariffs will be imposed on India for buying Russian oil

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that he will impose additional tariffs on India, over the prevailing 25%, if it keeps on buying Russian oil. This may cause Indian equity markets to decline today.
US markets gained sharply yesterday, 4th August, 2025, after the decline of Friday. Nadaq ended the day, up by 403.45 points or 1.95%. Dow Jones ended the day, up by 585.06 points or 1.34%. S&P 500 ended the day, up by 91.93 points or 1.47%. Technology stocks once again gained yesterday. Nvidia’s stock gained more than 3% yesterday. Meta’s stock gained more than 3%.
European markets also closed the day in green yesterday
European equity markets were also up, yesterday. Euro Stoxx 50 closed the day, yesterday, up by 1.49%. Dax ended the day, up by 331.7 points or 1.42%. FTSE 100 ended the day, up by 59.72 points or 0.66%.
Asian markets start the day in green
Asian equity markets have started the day in green today, 5th August, 2025. At 8:50 a.m. IST, Nikkei 225 is up by 254.29 points or 0.63%. Hang Seng is up by 34.14 points or 0.14%. Shanghai composite is up by 18.85 points or 0.53%. Kospi index is up by 30.73 points or 0.98%.
Oil prices are down today. At 8:55 a.m. Indian time, WTI crude is down by 0.35% at $66.05 per barrel. Brent crude is down by 0.32% at $68.54 per barrel.
