Reliance NU Energies Ltd, a direct subsidiary of Reliance Power Ltd, has bagged the maximum share in the iconic Solar + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tender issued by SJVN, a leading Navratna public sector enterprise. The firm has bagged 350 MW of solar and 175 MW/700 MWh of BESS capacity in the auction.
Tender Details:
The tender was part of SJVN’s broader 1,200 MW solar and 600 MW/2,400 MWh BESS ISTS-connected project. The bidding process witnessed strong participation from 19 entities, with 18 qualifying for the final e-reverse auction. Oversubscribed by more than four times, the tender highlighted the growing investor interest in dispatchable renewable energy solutions.
Reliance NU Energies secured the allotment at a fixed rate of ₹3.33 per unit per kWh and became one of the most competitively priced renewable projects in the country with a span of 25 years.
India’s Largest Solar + BESS Pipeline
Following this allocation, Reliance Power now boasts a total clean energy pipeline of 2.5 GWp of solar and over 2.5 GWh of battery storage capacity, making it the largest integrated Solar + BESS player in India.
Once commissioned, the project will add 600 MWp of installed solar PV capacity and 700 MWh of battery storage to the company’s growing renewable energy portfolio. The system is designed to provide a minimum four-hour daily energy discharge, ensuring peak power delivery to state utilities under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model.
Strengthening Clean Energy Vision
This follows Reliance Power’s strategic shift towards clean energy. The firm has been ramping up investments in integrated clean energy solutions to aid the long-term energy objectives of India.
As a further key step towards this aim, Reliance NU Suntech, a third completely owned subsidiary, signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) recently to develop Asia’s biggest Solar + BESS project. The new project will have 930 MW of solar generation with 465 MW/1860 MWh of storage and a ₹10,000 crore investment to support it at a fixed tariff of ₹3.53/kWh.
About Reliance Power:
Reliance Power is a part of the Reliance Group and ranks among India’s best-performing private sector power generation players with an operating capacity of 5,305 MW. This comprises the 3,960 MW Sasan Power Limited, the world’s biggest integrated coal-based power plant, which has been consistently rated as a top-performing power plant in India in the past seven years.
