Shares of pharma and healthcare companies are seeing short term profit booking today. Shares of many of these companies had gained on Friday. Today they are seeing short term profit booking as markets remain cautious about these stocks. This, in the face of higher tariffs that US has imposed on Indian goods, including pharma products.
At 10:10 a.m. IST, 15th September, 2025, Sun Pharma’s share is down by 1.01%, trading at Rs 1,600.30. Apollo Hospitals’ share is down by 0.90%, trading at Rs 7,803.50. Lupin’s share is down by 0.91% at Rs 2,024.80. Aurobindo Pharma is down by 1.17%, at Rs 1,081.60. Nifty 50 index is down by 0.11% at this time. Nifty Pharma index is down by 0.71% at this time. Nifty Healthcare Index is down by 0.63% at this time.
Pharma shares have seen decline in 2025
Pharma shares have seen decline this year after the US imposed 50% tariff on Indian goods. US is the biggest market for generic drugs manufactured by Indian pharmaceutical companies. Year-to-date (YTD) in 2025, Nifty Pharma Index is down by 5.46%. YTD, Nifty 50 index is up by 5.66%.
In the past few days the hopes that India and US may strike a bilateral trade deal ultimately, have increased. If such a trade deal happens and US tariffs on Indian goods get reduced, then it will greatly benefit Indian pharma companies. Their shares may go up in that scenario.
