Stock Market Mid-Day Report, July 3, 2026: Sensex, Nifty Extend Gains as Asian Markets, Wall Street Rall

Mumbai, July 3: Indian equity benchmarks built on their morning gains at noon on Friday, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight and Asian shares rallying in broad-based moves while investors remained cautious over Iran tensions as it readied for a week of mass mourning after its supreme leader was killed in a US-Israeli attack.
The BSE Sensex was trading up 591.85 points or 0.76% at 78,093.97 and Nifty 50 was 185.85 points or 0.77% higher at 24,361.55 as of 12:09 pm. Both benchmarks continued to trade above their intraday highs after sharp buying interest was seen in IT, healthcare and pharma stocks and investors chose to remain risk-on after a ceasefire between the US and Iran continued.
Gainers & Losers
HCL Technologies (HCLTECH) was the top gainer in the Nifty pack as it zoomed up 6.3% to its last traded price of Rs 1,146 from previous close of Rs 1,078.10. Shares of Tech Mahindra (TECHM) climbed 3.17% to Rs 1,429.20 against its previous close of Rs 1,421.30. Max Healthcare (MAXHEALTH) added 2.85% to Rs 1,157.50 from Rs 1,127.40. Eternal (ETERNAL) rose 2.57% to Rs 286.90 versus its previous close of Rs 279.70. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRREDDY) jumped 2.3% to Rs 1,376.70 from Rs 1,345.70.
State Bank of India (SBIN) was the top loser in the Sensex pack as it dipped 0.61% to Rs 1,045.20 from a previous close of Rs 1,051.60. Kotak Mahindra Bank (KOTAKBANK) shed 0.59% to Rs 396.95 against Rs 399.30. InterGlobe Aviation (INDIGO) lost 0.55% to Rs 5,414 from Rs 5,444. Axis Bank (AXISBANK) slipped 0.52% to Rs 1,355.50 versus Rs 1,362.60. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) eased 0.3% to Rs 344.90 from Rs 345.95.
Broader Markets & Sectoral Performance
In the broader market, buying was spread across with Nifty 100 and Nifty 200 advancing 0.61% and 0.50%, respectively. Only two gauges moved in the opposite direction as Nifty Next 50 slipped 0.04% and Nifty Microcap 250 fell 0.31%.
Nifty IT was leading the gains followed by Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma as they rose 2.25%, 2% and 1.92%, respectively on strong buying interest in IT services and healthcare companies along with major drugmakers. Among others, Nifty PSU Bank index was the top laggard as it slumped 1.27%. Nifty Energy fell 1.08% while Nifty MNC lost 0.15%.
Iran War
Iran declared Friday as the beginning of a week of mass mourning for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who was assassinated in the US-Isreali strike. Plans for mass processions were announced by officials in Qom and Mashhad within coming days. Ayatollah’s son Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded him as the new supreme leader of Iran, country’s third since the Islamic Revolution. Tehran did not respond aggressively overnight after the US-Isreali attack on Khamenei that would further increase tensions in the region.
Asian & US Markets
Asian shares rose broadly on Friday with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng jumping 1.93% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 0.78%. Only two Asian markets ended with losses as Shanghai Composite fell 0.19% and Vietnam’s HNX 30 shed 0.13%.
Wall Street’s Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher by 594.83 points or 1.14% on Thursday. Nasdaq Composite bucked the trend to trade lower by 0.80% on fresh selling in technology-heavy stocks.
Oil Prices
Oil prices ticked higher on Friday ahead of the long US holiday weekend. Brent crude futures were up 0.24% at $72.10 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 0.20% to $68.83 a barrel. Both benchmarks fell sharply on Thursday to their lowest since before the US and Israel began war on Iran amid cautious optimism that efforts were underway to ease tensions in the Middle East.
