Mumbai, Sept 18: Here are five stocks in focus on Friday, from a deepwater investment plan for Oil India to a biogas joint venture for Petronet LNG to a railway bridge order for GPT Infraprojects to fresh defence orders for Bharat Electronics to a green energy joint venture for PTC India. Here’s what’s driving each stock and what to track through the session.
Oil India (OIL): Plans Rs 15,000-crore deepwater exploration push
Oil India Ltd (OIL) plans to invest Rs 15,000 crore over the next three years in deepwater and ultra-deepwater exploration across the Andaman, Krishna-Godavari, Mahanadi and Kerala-Konkan basins, chairman Ranjit Rath said at the company’s annual general meeting. The push is backed by the government’s Samudra Manthan scheme, which will fund up to half of eligible drilling costs. Oil India is also targeting higher domestic production and selective expansion into clean energy areas such as compressed biogas. Investors will watch execution pace on these capital-intensive frontier projects.
Petronet LNG (PETRONET): Forms biogas JV with Gruner Renewable Energy
Petronet LNG Ltd (PETRONET) has approved a 50:50 joint venture with Gruner Renewable Energy to set up 10 compressed biogas plants across India, each with an 18-tonne-a-day capacity, for a combined 180 tonnes a day. The project carries an estimated capital outlay of Rs 1,200 crore, marking a diversification for a company historically built around LNG import infrastructure. The move follows Petronet’s separate tie-up with Indian Oil to develop CBG plants. Investors will watch for the formal incorporation of the new entity and details on feedstock and offtake arrangements.
GPT Infraprojects (GPTINFRA): Bags Rs 483.72-crore RVNL bridge order
GPT Infraprojects Ltd (GPTINFRA) has secured an order worth Rs 483.72 crore from Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd to build Bridge 544, an open-web steel girder bridge over the Mahanadi River, part of the third and fourth railway line in the Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway. The project is due for completion within 1,095 days. This is the company’s second RVNL order this month, taking its order book to Rs 4,992 crore and its FY27 order inflow to Rs 818 crore.
Bharat Electronics (BEL): Secures fresh orders worth Rs 648 crore
Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has secured additional orders worth Rs 648 crore since its last disclosure on August 26, spanning laser-based IR jammers, communication equipment, cybersecurity solutions, thermal imagers, AI-based software, upgrades, spares and services. The Navratna defence PSU has now disclosed three order tranches since early August, following Rs 730 crore on August 26 and Rs 541 crore on August 10. BEL shares closed 2.51 per cent higher at Rs 395.45 on Thursday, with the steady order flow a key metric investors track for revenue visibility.
PTC India (PTCIL): Incorporates green energy JV with NLC India Renewables
PTC India Ltd (PTCIL) has incorporated NIRL PTC Renewables Ltd, a joint venture with NLC India Renewables, to develop green energy projects targeting up to 2,000 MW, with the first phase set at around 500 MW. PTC India holds a 26 per cent stake, with NLC India Renewables holding the rest, for an initial cash investment of Rs 2.60 lakh. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs issued the certificate of incorporation on September 16, extending PTC India’s push into renewable energy.
Broader Read
Friday’s triggers span a Rs 15,000-crore deepwater plan for Oil India, a biogas joint venture for Petronet LNG, a railway bridge order for GPT Infraprojects, fresh defence orders for Bharat Electronics, and a renewable energy joint venture for PTC India, a mix of company-specific developments for investors to weigh even as the broader market stays watchful. The Nifty closed at 23,270.60 on Thursday, up 0.23 per cent, while the Sensex slipped 0.03 per cent to 74,314.59, with gains in realty, pharma, auto and metal stocks offsetting weakness in banking shares. Gift Nifty futures were last trading at 23,342, down 0.08 per cent, as of 7:44 am IST on Friday, pointing to a muted-to-positive start, even as elevated crude prices, the Fed’s latest rate hike, and the spreading Saudi-Houthi conflict keep the broader market on edge.
