Tata Motors shares are gaining today. At 2:50 p.m. IST, 1st October, 2025, the stock is the top gainer at Nifty 50. It is up by 5.43%, trading at Rs 717.15. Nifty 50 is up by 0.97% at this time.

Demerger of commercial vehicles business

Tata Motors today announced 14th October as the record date for the demerger of its commercial vehicles business. Shareholders who will be holding the shares of the company on the record date will be entitled to get shares of the demerged commercial vehicles entity. The new demerged entity will be called TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd (TMLCV). Shareholders of Tata Motors will be given 1 share of TMLCV for every share of Tata Motors that they hold.

JLR to resume production this month

Announcement of the record date for the demerger may have prompted the buying demand today in the company’s shares. Tata Motors saw some selling pressure last month after production at the plants of its UK subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was shut down due to a cyber-attack.

JLR has said that production will be resumed only in October. According to one estimate, Tata Motors and JLR are losing around GBP 50 million every week because of this shut down. UK government has intervened in the situation. It has provided loan guarantee of up to GBP 1.5 billion to help JLR and its suppliers overcome the situation

Tata Motors stock has underperformed this year

Tata Motors shares have lost 4.43% year-to-date (YTD) in 2025. In the same period Nifty 50 has gained 4.66%. The stock has underperformed the Nifty 50 by around 9% this year. 52-week high price of the stock currently is Rs 984.50. 52-week low price of the stock is Rs 535.75.
