TCS shares up by more than 2% as IT stocks gain today

Shares of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) are up today. At 1:20 p.m. IST today, 20^th August, TCS’ share price is up by 2.40%, trading at Rs 3088. 70. IT stocks are gaining in general today. Nifty IT index is up by 2.52% at this time. The broader Nifty 50 index is up by 0.31% at this time. In the past one month, TCS’ stock has lost 2.16%. Year-to-date, the stock has lost 24.86%. The broader Nifty 50 index has gained more than 5% in this period. The company has underperformed the broader market index by a wide margin since the start of 2025.

In another development related to the company, on Tuesday, Union of IT & ITES Employees (UNITE) protested against TCS due to its recent announcement of mass layoffs. UNITE believes that the mass layoffs by TCS will negatively affect 30,000 employees, a claim that TCS rejected.

TCS also announced yesterday that it has opened an AI-driven operations center in Mexico city. The company said that through the new center, it will expand its AI innovation in Mexico and Latin America. The center will employ AI specialists and is TCS’s eight operations center in Mexico.

TCS’s consolidated net profit has risen to ₹12,760 crore in Q1FY26, which is 6% higher YoY. However, there was only a slight increase in its revenue by 1.3% YoY at ₹63,437 crore. The operating margin was up 24.5% QoQ and net margin was up 20.1%.

The company’s total order book stood at USD 9.4 billion at the end of the June quarter, which is a decline from the previous quarter. TCS also announced a dividend of ₹11 in July 2025, showcasing its positive financial health.
