Mumbai, November 3: Shares of Trident, PC Jeweller, Vodafone Idea and YES Bank featured among the most actively traded stocks by volume on the NSE on Tuesday, November 3. Trident surged nearly 9% after reporting a sharp rise in September-quarter profit and announcing a proposed Rs 4,650-crore capacity expansion programme. Vodafone Idea edged higher, extending the previous session’s gains, despite a TRAI financial disincentive, while PC Jeweller and YES Bank traded lower amid regulatory and legal developments.

PC Jeweller Limited (down 0.34%)

PC Jeweller shares remained under pressure on Tuesday, extending their decline from Monday after the company disclosed over the weekend that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had issued administrative warning letters to its managing director and company secretary for failing to maintain a structured digital database as required under regulatory norms.

The lapse pertained to the company’s business update for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, which contained unpublished price-sensitive information (UPSI).

In an exchange filing dated October 31, PC Jeweller said the warning letters were issued on October 30 to promoter and managing director Balram Garg and company secretary and compliance officer Vijay Panwar.

The company clarified that while the structured digital database had not been maintained in connection with the business update, its trading window remained closed for designated persons and their immediate relatives throughout the relevant period. It added that the regulatory action would have no financial or operational bearing on its business.

The share price weakness comes despite an improvement in the company’s recent financial performance and its announcement earlier in October that it had settled its outstanding debt with a consortium of 14 banks.

Trident Limited (up 8.96%)

Textile and paper maker Trident surged on Tuesday after the company reported a 93.1% year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 175.50 crore for the September quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 90.9 crore a year ago. The earnings growth was supported by a 46.5% increase in EBITDA to Rs 313.7 crore, while the EBITDA margin expanded to 18% from 12%. However, revenue from operations declined 4% to Rs 1,719.50 crore. Separately, the company’s board granted in-principle approval for a Rs 4,650-crore capacity expansion and modernisation programme across its business segments.

Vodafone Idea Limited (up 0.49%)

Vodafone Idea shares edged higher on Tuesday, extending gains from the previous session, even as the telecom operator disclosed that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had imposed a financial disincentive of Rs 89.16 lakh for alleged regulatory non-compliance.

In a regulatory filing dated November 2, Vodafone Idea said it had received an order from TRAI on November 1 imposing the financial disincentive under the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018.

The order relates to alleged non-compliance with provisions of the regulations during the quarter ended December 2024.

The company said the maximum financial impact of the order was limited to Rs 89.16 lakh. It added that it was reviewing the order and assessing the appropriate course of action.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) shares gained on Monday after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) cleared French billionaire Xavier Niel’s proposed acquisition of a 16.2% stake in UK-based Vodafone Group Plc for 5.1 billion euros. The stock also remained in focus on Monday after the telecom operator rolled out four new voice-only prepaid plans in India, starting at Rs 179, in line with a directive issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The CCI’s approval removes a key regulatory hurdle for Niel’s proposed investment in Vodafone Group, which has a significant presence in India through its joint venture with the Aditya Birla Group, Vodafone Idea. The transaction is being routed through Vega SAS, a subsidiary of Niel’s family investment vehicle, Maya SAS.

Under the proposed deal, Vega SAS will acquire a 16.2% stake in Vodafone Group from Emirates Telecommunications Group for approximately 5.1 billion euros. Upon completion, the acquisition will make Niel’s investment vehicle the British telecom group’s largest single shareholder.

Although Vega SAS has no direct business operations in India, the transaction required clearance from the country’s competition regulator given Vodafone Group’s significant presence in the domestic telecom market through Vodafone Idea.

Yes Bank Limited (down 1.86%)

YES Bank shares declined on Tuesday, after recording a rise in the previous session, after the lender on Friday, post-market hours, rejected allegations of wilful disobedience levelled by the trustee of its additional tier-1 (AT1) bonds.

The development follows the Supreme Court’s October 15 judgment dismissing appeals filed by YES Bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Centre against a Bombay High Court ruling that had quashed the write-off of Rs 8,415 crore worth of AT-1 bonds in March 2020.

Axis Trustee Services, which represents the bondholders, had written to the bank on October 28, seeking reinstatement of the bonds and completion of the necessary corporate actions within three days. It warned that failure to comply would prompt contempt proceedings against the bank, its directors and responsible officers.
