US markets ended the day in red yesterday, 17th June, 2025. US President Donald Trump has called for Iran to unconditionally surrender. He added that America knows the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Disappointing retail sales data for May

US markets fell also because of disappointing retail sales data for May. Retail sales in America came down by 0.9% in May. This indicates to the increasing risk of recession that the US economy faces. Nasdaq ended the day, down by 180.12 points or 0.91%. Dow Jones ended the day, down by 299.29 points or 0.70%. S&P 500 ended the day, down by 50.39 points or 0.84%.

Asian markets start the day on a mixed note

Asian markets have started the day on a mixed note. Nikkei 225 has begun the day in green. At 8:45 a.m. Indian standard time, 18th June, 2025, Nikkei 225 is up by 255.06 points or 0.66%. Hang Seng is down by 303.97 points or 1.27%. Shanghai is down by 9.97 points or 0.29%. South Korean Kospi is up by 23.80 points or 0.81%.

Oil prices continue to rise

Oil prices continue to rise due to the Israel – Iran conflict. This, even after International Energy Agency’s forecast that global oil supply will exceed global oil demand, in 2025. At 8:50 a.m. Indian Standard Time, WTI crude for July delivery is up by 0.55%, trading at $75.25 per barrel. Brent crude is up by 0.36%, trading at $76.79 per barrel.
