Mumbai, August 05: The Ardee Industries IPO made a steady debut in the primary market on Wednesday, drawing healthy interest from retail investors even as institutional participation remained subdued during the first few hours of bidding.

By 11:49 AM, the public issue had been subscribed 0.74 times, reflecting a decent start for a mainboard IPO that still has two more days left before subscriptions close. While retail investors were quick to lap up their reserved portion, bids from qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) were largely absent, something that is fairly common on the opening day as large investors typically wait until the final stages of the offer.

For now, it is the retail category that is carrying the momentum.

Retail Investors Give The IPO An Early Push

Retail demand crossed the fully subscribed mark within hours of the issue opening, with the category booked 1.02 times. That early response helped lift the overall subscription even though institutional demand was still in its initial stages.

The non-institutional investor (NII) segment also showed encouraging participation, reaching 0.95 times subscription. Within this category, the smaller HNI portion was already oversubscribed, while bids from larger investors were still catching up.

The QIB segment, on the other hand, was subscribed only 0.09 times at the latest update.

Category Subscription
QIB (Ex Anchor) 0.09x
NII 0.95x
• bNII 0.83x
• sNII 1.18x
Retail 1.02x
Overall 0.74x

Overall, investors had applied for 4.15 crore shares against 5.62 crore shares available for subscription, with close to 80,000 applications received during the opening session.

A Large Public Issue With Both Fresh Shares And OFS

Ardee Industries is looking to raise ₹425.87 crore through a mix of fresh equity issuance and an offer for sale.

The company plans to issue 6.04 crore fresh shares worth ₹320 crore, while existing shareholders will offload 2 crore shares through an offer for sale aggregating ₹105.87 crore.

The IPO has been priced in a band of ₹50 to ₹53 per share. Investors need to apply for a minimum of 281 shares, translating into an investment of ₹14,893 at the upper end of the price band.

Ahead of the public issue, the company had already secured ₹127.76 crore from anchor investors, providing an early institutional base before subscriptions opened for the public.

How The Issue Is Reserved

The public issue has been divided among different investor categories in the following proportions:

  • QIBs: 50%
  • NIIs: 15%
  • Retail Investors: 35%

This allocation means the final subscription numbers could change significantly over the next two days if institutional investors step up their participation, as they often do in the closing hours of an IPO.

The company focuses on recovering and recycling end-of-life energy storage products and non-ferrous scrap, supplying refined lead products to customers in India as well as overseas markets.

Conclusion

The first few hours of bidding suggest that retail investors are comfortable with the issue’s pricing, but the real test will come over the next two days. Institutional investors have so far stayed on the sidelines, and their participation will play a key role in determining whether the Ardee Industries IPO gathers enough momentum to end with strong overall subscription. For now, the early traction from retail investors has given the issue a solid start, while the NII segment is also inching closer to full subscription.
