Asia Advances Along With US And Europe Futures As Oil Slides Over Iran War Pause; Indian Stocks Seen Opening Higher

Mumbai, July 27: Indian equity benchmarks are likely to start Monday’s session on a firmer footing, tracking a broad improvement in global risk sentiment after a pause in US-Iran hostilities pushed crude oil prices sharply lower and lifted Asian equities. The easing in geopolitical tensions has offered some relief to investors worried about a prolonged energy shock, while gains in US and European stock futures pointed to a positive handover for domestic markets.
Asia Advances
Asian stocks rose broadly on Monday as investors welcomed the pause in fighting in the Gulf, which triggered a sharp retreat in oil prices and eased concerns about inflationary pressures. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan remained steady, with markets across the region responding positively, although in a guarded way, to the prospect of a de-escalation in the conflict and a reduction in the risk of further disruption to energy supplies.
Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.2% while South Korea’s Kospi declined 0.5%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.8%. The recovery in risk appetite came after a turbulent period for global markets, when the escalation in tensions between the US and Iran had pushed crude prices sharply higher and raised concerns that persistent energy inflation could weigh on economic growth and delay interest-rate cuts.
US Stock Futures Rise
Dow Jones futures rose around 0.5%, while S&P 500 futures gained about 0.7% and Nasdaq-100 futures advanced roughly 1.2% in early trading. The positive setup reflected renewed optimism that the pause in hostilities could pave the way for diplomatic efforts, reducing the risk of a prolonged disruption to oil supplies.
European Futures Advance
European futures indicated gains as investors assessed the implications of lower energy prices for the region’s economy and corporate earnings. Euro Stoxx 50 Futures were up 0.4% while DAX futures rose 0.7%. FTSE futures were flat.
The retreat in crude prices could be particularly supportive for European markets, where energy costs have been a key driver of inflation concerns. A sustained moderation in oil prices could ease pressure on inflation and potentially improve the outlook for interest rates, while also supporting consumer spending and corporate margins.
Oil Prices Slide On US-Iran Pause
The biggest market trigger, however, remained the sharp fall in oil prices. Brent crude fell nearly 4% in early trading, while US West Texas Intermediate crude also declined sharply, as the pause in US-Iran military action revived hopes that diplomatic efforts could eventually help normalise shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The sharp reversal in crude prices marks a significant shift in sentiment after oil had surged amid fears that the conflict could disrupt supplies from the Middle East. Investors are now closely watching whether the pause can develop into a more durable de-escalation.
Lower Crude Prices Offer Relief To Oil-Importing India
For India, the decline in crude prices is a significant positive. Lower oil prices can help contain the country’s import bill, ease pressure on the rupee and improve the outlook for inflation and corporate margins.
Airlines, paints, tyres, chemicals and other fuel-sensitive industries could benefit from the move, while a softer crude price could also reduce concerns over the government’s subsidy burden and fuel pricing pressures.
The decline in oil prices may also provide some relief to the broader Indian market, which has been dealing with concerns over elevated energy costs and their potential impact on economic growth and corporate profitability.
Nifty, Sensex Seen Opening Higher On Positive Global Cues
The combination of firmer Asian equities, rising US and European futures and sharply lower crude prices suggests that the Nifty and Sensex could open higher on Monday. The immediate mood is likely to be one of relief, with investors taking comfort from the prospect of easing geopolitical tensions and reduced pressure from energy prices.
However, the extent of the domestic market’s follow-through could depend on whether the decline in oil prices holds through the session and whether investors view the US-Iran pause as the beginning of a sustained de-escalation.
Geopolitical Risks Keep Volatility Elevated
Investors may remain cautious about treating the latest market relief as a definitive end to geopolitical risks. The pause in US-Iran hostilities remains a fluid situation, and any fresh escalation could quickly reverse the decline in oil prices and revive volatility across global equities.
For now, the global setup points to a relief-led, positive start for Indian equities, although gains could remain measured as traders monitor developments in the Middle East and the direction of crude prices. The key takeaway for domestic investors is that a sustained decline in oil prices would be a meaningful positive for India, potentially easing inflationary pressures and supporting the rupee, while any renewed escalation could quickly bring risk aversion back to the markets.
