Asian Markets Pare Gains In The Afternoon Session As They Await Us, China Trade Talks Outcome

Many Asian markets pared their gains of the day and declined in the last one hour of trading today, 10th June, 2025. Nikkei 225 ended the day, up by 122.94 points or 0.32%. It declined by 0.6% in the last 45 minutes of trading.
Hang Seng is down by 62.13 points or 0.26% at this time, after starting the day in green. Shanghai composite ended the day down by 14.96 points or 0.44%. South Korean KOSPI too lost some of the gains of the day in the latter half. It ended the day, up by 16.08 points or 0.56%.
Markets Await Trade Talks Outcome
The second day of trade talks between USA and China are due to start in some time in London. US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent; Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick; and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are representing the US side in negotiations. Vice-Premier He Lifeng; Commerce Minister Wang Wentao; and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang are representing the Chinese side.
According to reports, against China’s bargaining chip of restrictions on exports of rare earth metals, the US is using restrictions on sale of chips, jet engine parts and ethane to China as its bargaining chip.
Getting Good Reports From London, Says President Trump
President Trump said last night that he is getting good reports from London. This has raised hopes that some mutually beneficial outcome will be reached. Tariffs between the two countries need to be brought down significantly lower in order to avoid a global economic recession.
The last hour selling in Asian markets today indicates that markets are uncertain about the outcome of these trade talks. Many investors seemed to have sold their stocks in the last hour after the gains seen in the opening hours.
