New Delhi, September 17, 2025: Film festival lovers are well aware of the highly acclaimed Busan International Film Festival held each year in South Korea. There’s big news on the Indian front as the country makes its ministerial-level participation debut at the prestigious festival and the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) in South Korea. In a bid to promote Indian cinema across international markets, a series of initiatives were announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting The move also aims to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries, especially because South Korean content has become quite a rage in India.

India-South Korea Cooperation

At the BIFF 2025, which takes place from September 17 to 26, the two governments will discuss a framework to co-produce animation, visual effects, gaming, comics (AVGC), and films. OTT tie-ups between Indian and Korean streaming platforms are also expected to be announced during this grand festival.

Delegation and Institutional Partnerships

Led by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, the Indian delegation will include representatives from the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), and independent creators under the WAVES Bazaar initiative

As part of the visit, Indian institutions such as NFDC, FTII, and IICT will exchange Letters of Intent with Korean counterparts including the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), Korean Film Council (KOFIC), and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).

Cultural Showcase and Film Screenings

A Bharat Pavilion and a WAVES Bazaar will be set up at BIFF and ACFM to connect Indian filmmakers with global producers and distributors. The ministry will also organize a cultural evening, ‘Bharat Parv,’ showcasing Indian arts, music, and cuisine. The festival will feature screenings of ten Indian films, including Spying Stars, If on a Winter Night, Kok Kok Kokoook, Shape of Momo, Bayaan, Don’t Tell Mother, Full Plate, Karinji, and I, Poppy.

Indian Projects at ACFM

In addition, five Indian projects will be presented at the co-production market. These include Difficult Daughters, The Last of Them Plagues, Lanka (The Fire), Moon, and The Magical Men.
