Mumbai, Sept 11: Trading on both the BSE and NSE will remain suspended on Monday, September 14, 2026, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi, one of India’s most widely celebrated festivals. The closure applies across the equity segment and equity derivatives segment, meaning no cash-market trading, F&O activity, or price discovery will take place that day. Markets will resume normal trading on Tuesday, September 15.
Following Monday’s closure, the next scheduled trading holiday falls on Friday, October 2, 2026, for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. Between these two holidays, the exchanges will otherwise remain open for regular trading through the rest of September.
Here’s the full list of trading holidays for the equity and equity derivatives segments in 2026:
| Sr. No. | Holiday | Date | Day |
| 1 | MCGM Election Day | 15-Jan-26 | Thursday |
| 2 | Republic Day | 26-Jan-26 | Monday |
| 3 | Holi | 03-Mar-26 | Tuesday |
| 4 | Shri Ram Navami | 26-Mar-26 | Thursday |
| 5 | Shri Mahavir Jayanti | 31-Mar-26 | Tuesday |
| 6 | Good Friday | 03-Apr-26 | Friday |
| 7 | Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti | 14-Apr-26 | Tuesday |
| 8 | Maharashtra Day | 01-May-26 | Friday |
| 9 | Bakri Id | 28-May-26 | Thursday |
| 10 | Muharram | 26-Jun-26 | Friday |
| 11 | Ganesh Chaturthi | 14-Sep-26 | Monday |
| 12 | Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti | 02-Oct-26 | Friday |
| 13 | Dussehra | 20-Oct-26 | Tuesday |
| 14 | Diwali Balipratipada | 10-Nov-26 | Tuesday |
| 15 | Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev | 24-Nov-26 | Tuesday |
| 16 | Christmas | 25-Dec-26 | Friday |
With Monday’s holiday, September will have nine non-trading days in total once weekends are factored in. Investors should also note that any transaction requiring bank settlement will similarly pause on the holiday, since banks typically observe the same festival closures, even though digital banking services like UPI and ATM withdrawals remain unaffected.
Looking ahead, market participants can also expect a special Muhurat Trading session around Diwali on November 8, marking the start of the new Samvat year, with exact timings to be announced closer to the date by the exchanges.
With Ganesh Chaturthi kicking off a 10-day festival, and Dussehra and Diwali following in October and November, festival season is well and truly around the corner, a period that has historically coincided with a seasonal pickup in retail participation, consumption-linked stock activity, and festive buying across sectors from jewellery to autos to real estate.
