Mumbai, November 08: Indian stock markets will hold a special Diwali Muhurat Trading session today, Sunday, November 8, as investors and traders participate in the traditional market opening of Samvat 2083. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will conduct the main equity trading session from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM.

The special session coincides with Diwali Laxmi Pujan and allows market participants to trade despite the Sunday holiday.

Diwali Muhurat Trading 2026: NSE and BSE Timings

The exchanges have scheduled separate windows for pre-open activities, block deals and post-market operations. The main equity session will remain open for 70 minutes.

Trading Activity Timings
Block Deal Window 1:50 PM–2:05 PM
Pre-open Session 2:05 PM–2:20 PM
Normal Equity Trading 2:20 PM–3:30 PM
Illiquid Securities Call Auction 2:25 PM–3:20 PM
Closing Session 3:30 PM–3:50 PM
Post-closing Session 3:50 PM–4:00 PM

For IPO and relisted securities, exchanges have prescribed a separate pre-open and trading schedule. Investors should check their broker’s platform for segment-specific order availability.

Muhurat Trading 2026: Settlement Rules and Charges

Trades executed during the November 8 session will follow the applicable T+1 settlement cycle, with settlement scheduled for Monday, November 9.

Muhurat Trading is a live exchange session, not a mock trading exercise. Regular trading costs, including brokerage, Securities Transaction Tax (STT), GST, exchange charges and stamp duty, will apply. Normal margin and risk-management requirements will also remain in force.

Investors should ensure that sufficient funds and securities are available in their accounts to meet settlement obligations. Lower liquidity during a shortened session can also lead to sharper price movements and wider bid-ask spreads.

Sensex and Nifty Outlook for Muhurat Trading

The special session follows a strong rally in the domestic market. On Friday, November 6, the Nifty 50 closed at 25,030.35, gaining 2.01%, while the Sensex advanced 1,718 points, or 2.17%, to 81,028.02.

According to market commentary cited by Goodreturns, domestic liquidity and renewed foreign buying have supported sentiment, although global uncertainties remain a factor for investors to monitor.

What Is Muhurat Trading?

Muhurat Trading is a special stock market session held on Diwali to mark the beginning of a new Samvat year. Many investors consider the occasion auspicious and make symbolic purchases as part of the annual tradition.

However, the festive significance does not change the risks associated with equity investing. Investment decisions should continue to be based on financial goals, research and risk tolerance.

Conclusion

Diwali Muhurat Trading 2026 will give investors a 70-minute opportunity to participate in the market on November 8. With trades scheduled for settlement on November 9, participants should check their broker’s timings, understand applicable charges and avoid making rushed decisions based solely on the festive occasion.:
