Electricity Trading Volume at IEX Increased by 25.5% in July

New Delhi, August 5, 2025 – Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) achieved a h monthly electricity trade volume of 12,664 million units (MU) in July 2025, marking a 25.5% year-on-year growth. This all-time high was driven by robust activity across Day-Ahead, Real-Time, and Green Market segments, with the Real-Time Market (RTM) recording its highest monthly volume ever.
Power Market Snapshot – July 2025
- A total of 12,664 million units (MU) of power were traded in July 2025, registering a 25.5% year-on-year increase.
- The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) recorded a volume of 5,510 MU, up 9% from 5,056 MU in July 2024.
- The Real-Time Market (RTM) saw a significant jump, with trading volume rising 53% to 5,109 MU, compared to 3,334 MU in the same month last year.
- In the Term-Ahead Market (TAM), volumes rose 28% year-on-year to 917 MU, from 714 MU.
- Trading in the Green Market grew 4%, reaching 1,025 MU in July 2025, up from 990 MU in July 2024.
- The Real-Time Market (RTM) recorded its peak daily volume at 204.6 MU on July 27, 2025.
- The average price in the Day-Ahead Market stood at ₹4.18 per unit, down 16% year-on-year.
- RTM prices averaged ₹3.83 per unit, reflecting a 23% decline from July last year.
- The Green Day-Ahead Market (Green DAM) reported an average price of ₹3.91 per unit for the month.
The decline in market-clearing prices, despite a 2.6% rise in national energy consumption to 153.6 billion units, indicates improved supply-side liquidity. This environment enabled utilities and commercial consumers to replace expensive bilateral contracts with more competitively priced power from the exchange.
Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Market
A total of 16.26 lakh RECs were transacted during two sessions in July, at a uniform clearing price of ₹360 per certificate. This represents a 48% decline in trading volume compared to the same month last year. The next REC trading sessions are scheduled for August 13 and August 27.

On August 5, 2025, shares of IEX are trading at ₹133.19, which is a 0.59% dip at 9:38 AM IST. IEX shares have dipped 1.49% in the last 5 days, 25% in the last six months, and 29% in the previous year.
Indian Energy Exchange Ltd opened the day at ₹135.00, touching a high of ₹135.30 and a low of ₹133.24 during the session.
The company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹11,860 crore. The stock has a 52-week high of ₹244.40 and a 52-week low of ₹130.65.
