Mumbai September, 08: GE Vernova T&D India has emerged as the L1 bidder for the design and establishment of a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV High Voltage Direct Current terminal station for Power Grid Corporation of India, covering the evacuation of renewable power from Barmer-II to South Kalamb.
As per the regulatory filing, GE Vernova T&D India received a letter dated September 7, 2026, confirming that Power Grid has issued its latest intimation identifying the company as the L1 bidder for the major HVDC project.
The proposed assignment involves the design, supply and execution of a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV HVDC Line Commutated Converter terminal station, configured as two 3,000 MW terminals. The project will form part of the transmission system planned for evacuating renewable power from Barmer-II to South Kalamb.
The project has been awarded through a domestic entity, according to the filing. GE Vernova T&D India said the execution period will extend over multiple years.
No specific contract value has been disclosed in the filing at this stage. The company has also clarified that the project does not involve any promoter or group-company interest and does not fall under related-party transactions.

6,000 MW HVDC Project To Support Renewable Power Evacuation
The proposed transmission project is designed around a 6,000 MW HVDC terminal station with ±800 kV voltage capacity. The station will comprise two 3,000 MW terminals.
The project is linked to the evacuation of renewable power from the Barmer-II renewable energy zone towards South Kalamb. Such high-capacity transmission infrastructure is intended to move electricity over long distances from generation centres to demand and grid-integration points.
For GE Vernova T&D India, the project adds to its exposure to India’s expanding transmission infrastructure requirements, particularly projects associated with the integration and evacuation of renewable power.

GE Vernova T&D India operates in the power transmission and grid infrastructure space, supplying equipment and solutions for electricity generation, transmission and distribution networks.

The latest L1 position therefore fits within the company’s existing transmission technology capabilities. However, the filing identifies GE Vernova T&D India as the L1 bidder, rather than confirming a final executed contract.
