New Delhi: GHCL Ltd, India’s largest single-location soda ash maker, has reported an 18.68 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 127.42 crore for the second quarter of this fiscal, aided by higher sales.
The Gujarat-based chemical maker had posted a net profit of Rs 107.36 crore a year ago, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Total income increased 12 per cent to Rs 808 crore for the September quarter of this fiscal from Rs 721.29 crore in the year-ago period.
Expenses also rose 9.29 per cent year-on-year to Rs 648.97 crore from Rs 593.78 crore in the period under review.
Managing Director R S Jalan said, “During the second quarter of FY27, the global soda ash industry continued to face pricing pressure, with realisations remaining soft amid ongoing global oversupply, a trend likely to persist over the next few quarters.”
While global oversupply and steady import pressure kept near-term realisations soft, low-cost positioning, disciplined operational efficiencies and structural cost management enabled the company to remain resilient through the quarter.
“We continue to strengthen our strategic diversification and backward integration,” he said.
During the quarter, the company successfully commenced commercial production of Vacuum Salt, powered by waste heat recovered from our soda ash operations. Subsequent to the close of the quarter, the company also commenced commercial production of Bromine, marking yet another milestone in its diversification journey.
“Looking ahead, our strategic focus remains firmly on operational excellence, optimising our newly commissioned Vacuum Salt and Bromine capacities, and advancing our long-term greenfield expansion plans,” Jalan said.
Backed by best-in-class operations, resilient domestic demand and a strong balance sheet, the company remains confident in its ability to navigate near-term cyclicality and deliver sustainable, long-term value to all stakeholders, he added.
